F5 gets Buff today

pescadore

Well-known member
Took my new to me F5 to an old house here in Commerce where I have found several old coins with other detectors. I got this Buffalo nickel but it is in really bad shape. I could not read the date but it has obviously been in the ground for a long time.

Buffs are fun to find, congrats. I wish the date area would have been designed better for wear.

Nic-A-Date will usually pull at least a shadow of a date for a while on a no date Buffalo.

Soak it in white vinegar for a day, then check it.

Crusty or not, that is a nice find... dave5710 is correct about the vinegar, just don't rub it after soaking... I soaked a crusty 1883 V nickel and like a nincompoop, I rubbed the back and almost completely obliterated it... The front looks great thou...
