F5 on the way!! :)

Another Fisher convert.... Ordered a new F5 DD with an extra 5" DD coil and a Garrett Pro Pointer today! Can't wait! (although I guess I'll have to!) I've been using a White's Prizm II, so this will be an upgrade to be sure. I think I'll join Oregon Treasure Trail Society while I'm at it! I've been lurking here for the last moth or so, and you guys have convinced me on the F5

Hello
You won't be disappointed with your F5, they take some getting used to but once you understand what it is telling you, happy days:bouncy:
I have had mine 4 weeks now and still feel I have a lot to learn, posts from Mike Hillis are very good, some hidden little tips which can really help. I'm kinda in the process of trying to eradicate the high tone over rusted iron, planning to try a different coil (other than Fisher).if you have been reading the posts in this forum you'll understand how to use the manual discrimination to help with the problem. Don't use the notch to notch out iron or you will receive a high tone over rusted iron, just use manual discrimination between 3-7, this should give you the grunt or deep sound for iron.
It's a great machine to use and very good looking, I intend to post any significant things I learn, but Mike is the man!
Good luck and let me know how your getting on with it.
Regards
Foggy

Thanks for the post Foggy. I've been reading all the posts of Mike's on here (actually found a Word document with a condensed compilation of his posts in here!) and have been soaking up as much from him (Thanks Mike!!! :) ) and all the other posters that I can find regarding this machine. I played around a little with an old analog White's Coinmaster I found at a yard sale several years ago. Man that thing went through batteries!, and most recently with a White's Prizm II that I have on loan from my father in law. Finally decided to bite the bullet. I was on the fence between this one, and a Tesoro Vaquero or an Outlaw. I live across the Columbia River from Portland, OR, and about 80 miles from the coast. Several folks I talked to said this would be a better choice for getting near the salt for ground balance, but more importantly, after reading this group vs. the Tesoro group, it seamed that there was a general consensus among the Fisher F5 posters that this is on heck of a versatile machine. So after calling around to several vendors, Bart, over at Big Boys Hobbies hooked me up with an F5 DD, with an extra 5" DD and a Garrett Pro Pointer. I'll get it in time before the monsoon season here passes by, and should have the short version of a basic understanding when the good weather hits. I'm anxious to go through my yard and my daughters yard and see what the Prizm missed! :)

Thank you guys on this forum for being such a friendly and information sharing bunch. I am really looking forward to this

BluesCruise, I predict you will like the F5. Spend a little time getting acquainted with it and you'll connect pretty fast.

Mike, lurking here was a big reason for my choosing the F5, too! Kudos to all here and my buddy Russ Balbirona!

Boy is there a ton of information on this forum! I've been doing homework for around 9 hours while on a weekend off at the Oregon coast. I printed out all of your stuff Mike, and writing down my understanding of what I've read there, and what is in the manual. Between that, drinking coffee, and listening to the ocean, this has been very relaxing and rewarding. It is cold, but above freezing here so I already have a few places in mind to go hunt. The county and city parks are all open to hunt here, and I've already chatted with a couple of locals here who hunt. The F5 is due in on the 27th, and I'm jacked about it.:clapping:

BluesCruise, that sounds like a great day! Already experiencing the sport, even with no detector, its rewarding and relaxing! Good Luck!

Agreed! If it weren't for THIS forum, I would have gone nuts by now!!! I got my F5 about a month ago, and ever since then it has snowed. Now, had I bought a new snowblower, or a new snowmobile, there would be no snow, and we could have hunted all winter. This is how it works up in the midwest, right Mud? lol

Dangit! weekend is over, that's the bad part.... I'm back to a computer to post rather than trying to type on my smart phone, that's the good part! Had a great weekend. Scarfed down a couple of Dungeness crab for my birthday dinner, had some pacific oysters for dinner sunday, and read a lot on the forum, learned a lot as well, got my wife's feet wet in the Pacific ocean (accident, I swear!! , "I didn't see that wave coming in time to warn you honey!") and had a shrimp and cheddar omlette for breakfast. Me thinks I need to retire.... got a few more to go, this birthday was #57. At any rate, the F5 is due in Wednesday! Happy birthday to me!!! Now, just to get the wife interested. :cheekkiss:

You better retire as fast as possible! Most jobs now a days are just temporary and unprofitable nusiances! lookat all the gold those Southern boys have been finding while we are all snowed in!

get out there and find a nice gold ring and give it to her that should get her interested welcome to the forum and let us know how you do with your new md. hh

Aside from having to suffer in the great white north, and not being able to detect, NOW I have to listen to Blues talk about delicious seafood! Are you trying to drive me insane up here, Blue? LOL

Seriously, though, I'm in the same boat - new detector and can't wait to use it! I wonder what our very first find will be???? (pull tab?) :clapping:

Ok, stilpony, I suppose that was a little uncalled for..... Almost as bad as all the good stories I read here about all the cool finds, and having no F5 yet to play with! The wife has just about had enough of me: "It's gonna be here day after tomorrow!" "It's gonna be here tomorrow!" I'll have to remind her of that when she buys the next 5 purses or new outfits...... Heck, just give me some old blue jeans, a digging tool and some knee pads! :) It's sunny out this afternoon, and about 48 degrees, and it's driving me a little nuts! 20% chance of rain tomorrow AM and partly sunny in the afternoon, so I should get to play a little if the UPS guy gets here before midnight. I've been keeping an eye on the weather you folks have been having in the Midwest and the East coast, and I don't envy you at all. I'll see what I can do about sending a little of this weather your way. Our only problem here isn't really a problem, but it's just that this time of year in Portland, it rains darn near non-stop. Not hard rain like you guys get, but pretty persistent. But I suppose if I can work in it, I can play in it too, as I was smart enough to buy a rain cover for the detector while I was at it :)

Yep rain cover is nice keeps the screen from gettin all scratched and dirty....but with the cutouts for the knobs I would imagine a heavy rain might still get in I don't think I will chance finding out. Got my f5 a month ago really like it and the batteries last forever still have a lot to learn about it though.happy huntin :detecting:

Blues, got ya covered in Portland!!!! All you would have to do is a half moon cut out to give the MD shaft some room to swing, but you could go out in anything with this baby!!!!
