F70 & a Sun Ray probe

I got my wife a F70 with the 11dd coil for mothers day, and was thinking of getting a Sun Ray probe for it. Any of you out there use one on you F70 or 75, and if so what are the pros and cons of getting a inline probe instead of a handheld pinpointer? I want the good with the bad.

I have a propointer for me and love it.

I had put a sunray probe on my LTD and it was a great addition.

The fact that it's attached and is heard with same tones as the detector and through your headphones, gets a little mored depth than the propointer, and discriminates (meaning you won't pull out three nails before you find your target), is enough to make it win hands down..

I got a sunray probe on my f70 and a 12x10 sef coil it is abit heavier but i can still swing all day. I like my probe it helps me out alot and i keep it on there all the time.
The only drawbacks are the weight and sometimes ive had the switch on probe and couldnt workout why i couldnt groundbalance lol.
At first i didnt use it that much but now im using it all the time

I have a propointer for me and love it.

Couple of reasons - I found that the Sunray would zero in on ghost signals, which was a PITA. Also the Sunray is a motion detector, so it's also a PITA in roots and the Garrett is awesome in roots. I don't care that the Sunray probe is integrated with the detector tones/ID because you already have a good idea from the detector what your digging before you start to dig. Honestly having disc mode tied into your probe is a non-issue. I also felt the Garrett got far better depth then the Sunray, and not having an accessory attached to the detector helps keep the weight down (the F75 is 3.5lbs, so add another lb to it and your at the same heavy weight as an Explorer).

Another nice thing about a stand alone probe is that it's the last probe you need to buy, unlike the Sunrays which are detector centric so you need one for each detector (with a few exceptions like the F70 & F75).

I also like the Pistol Pro but it's way too big for my conform, but it's definitely deep. I've also hear the Uniprobe is good, but it's $300 and your stuck with Uniprobe headphones for better or worse.

I have a sunray probe on my F-70 and my CZ-70 and on my Omega I carry a Garrett probe they are booth great. and there is no way that I forget the Garrett cause its attached to the Omega. HH

Cal Cobra i am glad you went into more details. I did not know it was motion only, which i dont like that idea for a pinpointer. Now i need to re think my decision and get to a shop to check one out before i order one.

Hey Weasel I don't use the Sunray and never considered it because I do a lot detecting in thick brush and do not need any more components getting tangled with thorns than I already have. The Pro Pointer rocks in that I may not be able to set my detector down near the spot where I'm digging at all times and by the same token can also go into hidey holes the Sunray can't.

If you've ever crawled into a target area to check a signal you'll know what I mean. On occasion I have swung a coil under thick brush, got a good signal, then crawled in with just the probe.

Lastly and more importantly as Brian points out, can't move the Sunray from rig to rig. Big detractor when you do the variety of hunt sites I try to hit using at least two different primary machines.
