F70/F75:Can they find 1-10 grain targets? Will the F5?

Will the F70/F75 find 1-10 grain gold nuggets? Must I surrender notching on the F70/F75 and buy the Goldbug Pro to detect 1-10 grain targets? How about the F5? Will it work for small gold nuggets?

Yes the F75 can hit on a 3 grain target about 2" to 3", and a 5 grain pill at about 4" to 5". Haven't tried the F70 or the F5 under same conditions. I must say that was with the 11"DD coil. It may be better with the smaller coils.

yes my f70 will find small nuggets 10th grain nuggets with the 3 x 6 coil can be done
it works great for nuggets :detecting:
heres some i found with the f70

I'll take a picture of my F5 nugget. I don't know how heavy it is as my scale doesn't register it.

Great! The Fisher 1-800 number had no idea about gold. Maybe I can buy the F series instead of the Goldbug Pro. It should be better for all around detecting.

Thanks for the responses!

Go to the fisher classic forum and read up on the Gold Bugs, they are pretty impressive machines, primarily designed for gold.

Gold bugs are great for small gold, but don't have the features of an all around machine. Those F5 nuggets look good. Can the F5 handle hot ground and salt water? The more expensive F70 can't balance out salt water in DISC mode, according to Fisher. While Fisher doen't list the F5 as a prospecting detector, it has an all metal mode and obviously can find gold from the picture above! Do you think that the F5 would be a suitable alternative to the more costly F75?

The F5 was once advertized as a prospecting detector on the old Fisher website. That was the reason I bought it in the first place. I have not taken my nugget picture yet. I'll get it posted up this weekend, promise.

I did an air test between my F5 and my GBSE the F5 will hit a 6 grain at 3" and the GB will hit it a bit over 4". A 2 grain nugget the f5 will hit at 1.5 " and the GB about 2.5" This is in disc mode with a good VDI. I have noticed the VDI is much more tight on the GBSE than the F5 which will fall off to iron. In all metal mode you will get a little more depth not much. The GBSE is on par with the F75 but I have not had a chance at beach yet. The F5 balances correctly in salt and does well at the beach. I bought the GBSE for relic hunting and is more stable than the F5 and runs quiet at max and is much more immune to EMI. By far a superior machine if you are going to relic hunt. I have not yet prospected but will try it this weekend. I just got my GB back from FT (two trips). My only problem is I ripped the cartilage in my knee and have to get a little surgery. The Separation is way above and beyond the F5 which is very fast to begin with. If I was going to coin shoot I would get an F5 it is a very versatile machine. If your main goal was to relic or prospect I would get the GB.

Just my thoughts

Bob

PS My son loves the simplicity of the GB and he might give up his F2 which is really a great machine for the buck. Maybe I should have bought two

The Goldbug sounds good. I'll look for reviews of the Goldbug Pro and maybe wait for a sale! Had a "trick" knee once myself, but they took the cartilage out. That was before the "arthroscope", (???) which does a better job.

Here is my one and only F5 gold nugget to date. I'm guessing about 1/3 gram. I use this one now as my test nugget.

The 1/3 gram nugget should weigh about 5.1 grains! Not bad.
Autopilot4z. Good comparison of F5 and Goldbug SE. You didn't mention coil sizes. Since the GBSE has a 5" coil and the Fisher F5 usually has a 10" coil, I wonder if equalizing the coil sizes on both detectors would narrow the performance gap?
The Goldbug Pro comes only with 5"DD coil. I'd like to see an 11" coil option, so I wouldn't have to pay extra for the larger coil. I could always raise the 11" coil over hot ground to shrink the target area, instead of installing the 5" coil. The separate purchase of an extra coil raises the price of the Goldbug substantially.
The Fisher F5 at Kellycodetectors.com is $499.00 with 10"DD coil. Hard to beat at that price!

An alternative which allows a choice between 18.75Khz DD coil and 7.5Khz coil is the Minelab X-Terra 705. The X-705 would have to outperform the lower priced Fisher F5, however!

Both machines had the 5 inch coils for the tests. The gold bug se is really sensitive up to two inches on very small flakes that the F5 will not detect.

Take care
Bob

So the Goldbug SE is definitely better. Wonder if there is much difference in the new Goldbug Pro? I'd like a bigger coil option, though!

I've learned from Fisher Engineering that the Teknetics G2 is electronically identical to the Goldbug Pro. The G2 comes with 11"DD coil instead of the GB Pro 5" DD, so I can get my larger coil after all! It costs $699.00 at Kellycodetectors, and extra $50.00 for the larger coil.
