F70 Newbie with some questions

I just got my F70 a week ago and Iam starting to get a feel for this machine. My only other detector is my Ace 250.
I have had great test results out in the "good dirt" but at an old turn of the century park (last century) with lots of trash (iron) I don't know if I should trust what Iam hearing. I know how to play with the disc. and thres. and gain. but i get some targets with no bars on the confidence meter and VID numbers in the 80's and 90's.
What gives ?

Out in the hills on AT with gain at 80 thres at 0 the machine was nearly silent and I hit some rifle bullets at 11".

Thanks for any help.

It could be something really deep or the iron is messing with you.

I have a F 70 and an Ace also.
The Ace will scream at you compared to the F 70. Like on copper or silver. You have to listen closely to what the F 70 is telling you or you will miss allot. It hits on everything, because it is so fast. It sound off on everything at the same level. After a while I can get tired of all the sounds that bombard my mind. Play with the different tones. Sometimes 2 tone works best and seems to give me better and clearer readings. Watch having the sensitivity too high in trashy areas. Go slow in trashy areas. Open fields is where the F 70 shines. I think it is too powerful for tot lots even tuned down. That is where the Ace shines. Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks. I feel the same way, the Ace is great at the park with my son searching and I get to dig. I really like the F70 out in the open areas. Iam still trying to dial myself in with it. I tried some side by side tests and the F70 was hitting on some deep modern jacketed rifle bullets, the Ace did not hit on them, but at the park the shallow clad was easier (for me) with the Ace. Iam really happy I bought the F70, I just have to spend some more quality time with her. I have tried the different tones and I agree with you, on the 2 tone.
Thanks Again

I own the f70 and i agree with john. You must go slow in the trashy parts of the park. The F70 hits everything. Swinging to fast will just overload your brain and frustrate you. Most home sites and fields you can go much faster. Also turn the gain down in the trash.

When i use the F70 at the trashy park areas should I switch back to the concentric coil ? I bought the F75's DD coil when I bought the F70 and it is my first DD coil, so again I have some learning to do. I have read that in the trash with DD, I should sweep higher off the ground to get a nice repeatable signal, but I have been swinging fairly fast and had some success with this method. Again this particular park is circa 1900's and has gone from old county building, open park, park with playground, ball field, and most recently new sound stage and open grass seating for hundreds of folks every Thursday night for free summer concerts. I just had to search this place. However
there is huge interference right down the middle of the park as all power is under ground and the trash is really heavy under the sod. I might have to give up on this area.
Thanks again
