F70 Notch & Discrimination

pine3874

Well-known member
This is not meant to be a general discussion about the notch & discrimination functions on the F70. I have two specific questions that I need help with.

1) Can notch be set to 0? If so, how. If not, that means that at 0 discrimination, iron is always notched out. Is this correct?

2)However, when I set my discrimination above 15, iron is notched in and if I want to discriminate out iron, I have to notch it out. Is this correct?

This is the way it works on my F70. If this is the way it was designed to work, I don't understand why????????? Sure hope there is nothing wrong with my detector.

Any of you smart people out there that could enlighten me as to why it works this way it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not really a smart person but for question number 2 I can say for sure your machine shouldn't work like that. I would suggest you do a factory reset on your machine just in case you have some notches set. Now after you do a reset all notches will be removed, I wouldn't touch anything to do with notching, but check set the disc to 15 and check some small iron items and see if they are disc out. Your detector shouldn't respond to the nail going by the coil. If your detector is hitting the nail I think you have problem with the detector.

If you need some help with the factory reset let me know and I can look it up in a download manual and fix your right up.

I am not sure about your question #1 but if you do a factory reset it will get rid of all notches.

Pine, here is an explanation of what is happening. Put the old thinking cap on. I don't think anything is wrong with your machine
I was in the same boat as you when it came to NOTCHING and one of the guys sent me this info and it explained how it works.

The Fisher has a method by which you can selectively notch in certain things and notch out others and it has to do with how you
set it. Yes, do a reset and start over. You may need to read this info more than a couple of times. Also, the Notch never goes to
zero, the lowest setting is 1, that is number one. If you do not want to use the Notching feature set it at 1 and it is essentially OFF.

If I remember correctly this is from member WV62

Here is my take on understanding notching.

I am only talking about the F75ltd and I hope it carries over to the F70.

I will start out by answering a couple of the main questions that may get some off track.
Disc out= items that should no longer be detected.
Disc in= items that should be detected.
Notch out= items that should no longer be detected.
Notch in= items that should be detected.

Now one way to think of notch and disc are that they are somewhat the same being they setup the items to either be disc in or out.
If you only have disc you only have the option to run it up or down until you take out what you don

Thanks for your help. Just did a factory reset and now it is working as it should. Must have some how gotten the notch function reversed.
