F70 question please

yowow#1

New member
On my f70 in program 1 when i go through the menu it cycles through

Disc level
speed
sensitivity
Threshold
# of tones
notch

In program 2 the menu only cycles through

Disc level
speed
sensitivity
threshold

Is this normal? and can you tell me why? I sure would appreciate some help. cause i can't find anything in the owners manual.

Loiters, loiters, loiters... A bunch of loiters and no answers............MUDPUPPY, Please do you have a answer for my situation.

Yowow, your F70 is in auto tone mode in your program 2. You need to raise discrimination at least to 1 to change it into discrimination mode where the other options in menu will then become available.-HH

Huh...I'll have a look at mine today to see if thats what it does too...I've never used the Prog 1 and 2 feature...I just turn on and go, in prog 1 and adjust that as needed...

Wow, Thank you IB, i played with it for two hours and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't cycle through the entire menu in program 2. and it was that simple, gee i feel stuuupid. great to have this site to ask for help.

I will usually keep my F70 program 1 set up in all medal or auto tone as the manual calls it. Program 1 is the default start up program and is where all ground balancing should be performed according to the manual. As soon as I turn the unit on I locate clean ground and push the pinpoint button. If a ground balance is needed there will be a target depth reading when pinpointing even though obviously no target is present. This is a little trick I learned from the writings of Mike Hillis, and I thank him for that and many other countless observations. This is a similarity the F series units share and I use this trick all the time. Here in Central Wisconsin it is very sandy so if your in a park, sports field or even some one's yard, there is a good chance top soil has at one time been brought in from another location and mineralization can change quite rapidly. If there are two horizontal lines in the readout when I push pinpoint, the ground balance is fine and I switch over to program 2. I also keep sensitivity set higher and threshold at zero in auto tones since I use it when I want to double check deep target ID,s and one way signals at the fringe of my sensitivity setting in discrimination mode since many times we 70 users will run very low sensitivity and minus threshold settings in heavy trash. ------HH and long live the 70:please:.
