Well, that convinces me. I gotta get that threshold number up there, even if I have to drop the sensitivity way down to run halfway quiet. I wonder what I've been missing by running my threshold too low.

This video is using f70 in my test garden on a 8 inch deep quarter. It amazes me on how deep it goes on sensativity level 1 ... And it also shows how threshold plays a part in depth .. I ran threshold at -3 at first to get to know the machine. So is why a made the vid. Hope you like it and for the guy that is frustrated with his f75 in the next thread he should watch the video. ;)

Very interesting and informative vid! :clapping: You are getting a lot of views on your post, and I'm sure we are all trying to digest your results, I have never seen anybody running sens that low and getting a hit like that on a deep Q...I wonder how these settings behave in the trash?...As a -3 thresh mid sens runner, I will attempt to go sub 20 on sens, and high pos on thresh to see what happens in my area this weekend? Thanks for the strange inspiration on the F70 basstracker!

Mud to be honest i was shocked myself. My etrac struggles on these coins only because i didnt clean the area completely on purpose. Even a small coil on etrac dont get them all and gets none if i lower sens down below 20. The f70 made me think differently

Yeah...we got a strange rocket here in the F70 thats for sure...I've been experimenting trying to find a setting/usage that can 'tell' gold from tabs...I'm pretty sure if anything can do it, it will be the 70 with some strange set-up combined with nontraditional coil manipulation...like the 'little drummer boy' coil tap...no firm results yet, so your post has stretched my horizons a bit, thanks!...

Mud, I once read in "Tips and Tricks of the F5" (The Bible). Something like inverting the sensitivity and threshold settings for gold but I don't recall the effect it had on the F5.---IB

But can't you hear that coin with a threshold of -3 or -2 and a high sensitivity also? (70-99)

I've tried running high threshold in the past in my yard and there are so many crackles and blips it takes a lot of concentration to hear any coins.
The coins would have a longer duration and vdi jump within a few numbers.
And then when I would turn the threshold down and the sensitivity up, the coins would still be heard without all the other noise.

In my experience digging any of the short high blips you hear with high threshold would only give me a rusty nail or other tiny flakes of metal.
They were usually jumpy vdi also. Taking a lot of time to re-check each target for a steady vdi.

But in other ground it may be a different story?

I had thought high threshold was more for gold nugget hunting, tiny gold jewelry, etc.

Exactly the same as I've found with the F70. I usually ruin 0 to -3 and do the rest with sensitivity or slo mode. In my ground I can hear a silver dime at 5" with -3 and 35.sensativity-----IB

I wasnt trying to change the way anyone hunts. My goal was just to show the power of the f70 .. For any detector to pick up the quarter buried 8" deep with not so clean dirt, meaning i did not remove all rust , and at the sensitivity level as the f70 was at is unreal. My etrac struggles with these coins. All my whites struggled the best being the mx5 until now the f70. Lowering your threshold to zero or below only loses you maybe an inch or slightly more.

You may not have intended to influence anyone's settings, but I'm going to try jacking up the thresh like you do in your video an see what happens. In the suburban yards I'm hunting, a sensitivity setting over 65-70 gives me a lot of noise. Might as well try upping the thresh and lowering the sens. Couldn't hurt to give it a shot and see what happens.

I understand that the higher sensitivity most likely brings back the depth even with the thresh set to 0 or lower, but I have to try a positive thresh now after this vid. This is my first season using my new to me f75 ltd. I have learned so much in a short few months with it, and it will remain my go to detector. Broke into the 1800s this year with the 75. Lots of clad 2 silver rings first buffalo nick my first Barber a 1911 p and my first seated a vf condition 1877 cc dime. Lots of great firsts this year with my new machine. Still searching for gold, but getting tons o tabs. It will happen, I just haven't pulled my tab quota yet. Maybe a couple hundred more tabs and gold will pop out of the hole. lol. Thanks to anyone and everyone out there who researches our Fisher machines and shares what they found. I really enjoy learning new tricks to be better with my machine.

It's nice to know that we've all had a hand in some small way at some others success. You can bet your butt there will be plenty of people out there tomorrow venturing into the upperside of threshold. Thanks for the video:thumbup:

Interesting video.

I don't have an 11" DD coil so tried your experiment with the stock 10" elliptical coil and could not pickup the 8" quarter. Tried Disc 0 Sens 99 Mode SL Thresh 9 and could also not pickup the quarter. Don't know if it has to do with the fact that I had just buried the quarter and there was no hallo effect or what.

If you have a stock coil or any of the other coils could you please repeat the experiment with them and report your results. Would be very interested in hearing about those results. Thanks

As of now i only have the 11" coil. But i bought the 5" round dd off Bill_S and it should be here in a few days. I will repeat test with it.

I just went and tried it in a spot I've pulled lots of nickels out of in the past...its a bit of a swale in the local soccerfield that tends to stay damper than the surrounding loam....i tried a low sens, 20, and tried to go positive on the thresh all the way to 9...Running DP tones and the 11"dd on the F70...I couldnt get it to work, very staticcy, so I set up 70 sens -1 and hit a nickel signal at 5....then flipped back to the other settings and couldnt get anything, but really scratchy tones...one thing interesting, I went to -3 thresh 55 sens and couldnt get a good hit...GB was 90...So I learned something anyway, only spent 1/2hr and got 2 nickels, one D and 2 pennies, all of them 5-6"...I think I have gotten used to the tones at -3thresh around here...seems -2 is ok, but when I get up near 0, things get too busy, -3 seems about perfect, and a higher sens gets me more depth, but is not as accurate for stabbing on the shallow 3" signals..too much power makes for a larger signal...and if they are deeper than 5", it takes too long to fish it out with the screwdriver...different hunting for me though, and I had fun concentrating....

So I'm not sure if I passed on these signals when running for shallow easy money, or never heard them to begin with...will keep trying though.
