Bruinvikes,

I would be interested in which of the sniper coils you got for Christmas and how it works out for you.

Ron in WV

I received the Fisher 5" DD coil. I will let you know how it works for me after I use it on a hunt.

That's a good choice, I have 3 little coils the 5"DD, 6.5" concentric elliptical and a NEL snake. All are about the same depth, the little 5" seems to have the smallest foot print and that is a plus for that coil.

In a new area I like to cherry pick the silver with one of the bigger coils that we have been talking about and then go back with a little coil and clean house.

Good luck with that little 5,

Ron in WV
One of these is definitely on my "want" list. There's lots of trashy places where I've been hunting that one of these sniper coils would be very useful. Went out yesterday to a park that has a football and soccer field. Put the Nel thunder coil on thinking I would hit these, but too many people on the fields so I hit another area, but so much trash that the big coil was next to worthless. I can also see how one of these small coils would work nicely in the woods around brush and since they're solid they would get hung up on fallen branches and twigs as easily.

Hay NCtoad,

I did some separation testing using 2 clad dimes on a yard stick outside on the ground with each of my 3 little coils and here is the results.

5"DD round = .875"
NEL snake = 1.0"
6.5" concentric elliptical = 1.125"

I would say they are all good enough to work in the trash. The 6.5" concentric handles the bottle caps better than the DD coils. The little NEL snake are about the same to hunt with, you get a little better ground coverage with the NEL snake. Know what I know now, there is no need to have both the 5"DD and the NEL snake they are so close to the same.

Interesting results Ron, thanks! I like the shape of the NEL snake...looks like it would squeeze in some tighter areas, but that fisher 5" looks good too.
