F75 and new FeTones

WV62

Well-known member
I know what these tone settings do, but I was wondering what they would be used for? I was reading in the manual that the 2F tone would be most used by relic hunters and 2H and 2L says they are the same as 2F with just lower iron tone.

Then if go outside the new FeTones they added a 1n, what would a person us this one for?

As a inland coin and jewelry hunter would any of these new tones do anything for me?

I dont know Ron..To me, it gets so complicated when it comes to dirt gold jewelry/settings/tones...As long as a guy can get the signal of a 2gr 10k ring...or a decent sized chain, and definitely where you are hunting not miss any gold coin signal..Thats about as good as it gets I figure...of course silver coins, but that stuff should really jump out no matter what...

Through trial and error, I just sort of found a tone I understand and trust, (DP) then went to a super fast retrieval method, and just grind it out in likely gold holding locations in the short time I have to hunt for it...Am I missing small chains? Probably, but I for SURE dont want to miss a BIG gold chain, ring, or coin...All these tone settings make my head hurt, I'm sure they have a purpose, but it takes a lifetime to learn and understand them all...Default to what you know and makes sense the best for your own ears...then just grind it out....a guy can waste a lifetime fiddling with settings..

1N would be used the same as 2F,H,L. Anything that would sound off as iron at 2F, 2H, or 2L would be muted in 1N.

Iron is not discriminated out in 1N , you will still get ID numbers just no audio.

I would only consider using 1N in FA process as it is very fast (no nulling) otherwise I like to hear the iron. It makes me slow down a bit and you can still hear iron in 2H or 2L and it's not so irritating.

I'm assuming it would be best used for coin shooting in iron in FA process in zero disc if you don't like to hear the constant iron audio.
Hope that helps.

Well that is kind what I am looking for, some use for these tone settings, or are they tools that I will never need or use.

I started using the 2L tone , I like knowing if iron is around so with this use of tone it's great. All iron is low in volume and non-iron is high in volume. 80 to 90 send. 0 disk , in Def. mode . GS

2f-grunt noise for iron, mid tone for a conductive target.(good for coin and relic. you hear everything as long as you are not using discrimination).

2h-Iron grunt noise is lowered but still audible. mid tone for a conductive target. (Makes the conductive tones stand out. good for coin and relic, you still hear iron but you can concentrate more on the conductive tone).

2L-Iron grunt noise is lowered more but still audible. mid tone for a conductive target. (Makes the conductive tones stand out more. good for coin and relic, you still hear iron but you can concentrate more on the conductive tone).

1n-NO iron tone but iron will display as a VDI number. Mid tone on conductive targets. IMO, 1n is one of the most useful tones there is. I plan on doing a write-up on this tone on another forum.

So which is the best for you? After you try them all out for a few hours, ask your ears :)

Hunting with upgraded unit in hotter ground say 4 bars on the meter. Tone 1N is to me a BIG NO NO. I can't tell you how many deep good relics I've hit when swinging and first got the iron tone (funny sounding). Centering the coil and adjust sweep and start getting high tone using 2F tones. In these situations had I been using 1N tone, I would have walked right by. I'm not real crazy about 2L tone. I need to hear the iron tone full out. In 4 bar soil I notice a spot about as big as a golf ball if not smaller maybe that's hot. Coil is almost shutdown with ground minerals using disc.

I wouldnt use 1n for relics either...it silences iron and thats what most relics are made of. The OP was talking about coin and jewelry.

And I was talking about deep nonferrous targets in hotter ground..nonferrous is nonferrous whether your coin/ jewelry hunting or relic hunting. A deep dime in 4 bar soil in 1N tone if not caught flush with coil at the right swing speed may not make a peep. In 2F tone if you missed the flush sweep at least you may get a funny sounding iron tone and can investigate. For shallower hunting tone 1n using the small coil in iron/nails it might work and have a purpose for me.
