F75 confidence meter

I haven't seen a lot of posting in regards to the confidence meter on the F75. Maybe I just missed any post on this subject.

I would like to hear what users think of this tool and is it used a lot or just something that is not paid a lot of attention to. I for one use it and like when coin hunting.

I have little confidence in the confidence meter. The detector should provide a special tone for coins rather having a meter. No matter what with the F75, we will end up digging some junk. Nothing worse than getting a solid 94 reading and then digging trash.

Want to mention this...

From Manual................ CONF (Target Confidence Indicator)
This 6-segment graphic indicates how confident the detector is of the 2-digit target
identification it has assigned. If all 6 segments are displayed, you can be confident that the
target ID is accurate. If 3 or fewer segments are displayed, the confidence is very low.
Junk targets tend to produce lower confidence indications than coin targets of similar electrical
conductivity. Sloppy sweep technique also reduces the confidence indication. You can use
this indicator to train yourself to sweep more skillfully

Maybe it is where I hunt but my F-75 SE will never lock on anything so I pay little attention to the confidence meter. I use mine for relic hunting usually in motion all metal bp process and 2 tone sensitivity as high as the machine can stand or I can stand. Great machine by the way. It will find stuff. HH :fisher::minelab::teknetics:

I have been using for general coin hunting and it seems to help me decide to dig or not to dig.

Now the other day I decided to hunt a small trash infested strip along a road in the park that I have hunted before with another detector.

Thinking there is silver in there I went back with the F75ltd rigged with the 5"DD coil and worked every target that gave me 3 or more bars on the confidence meter. Worked pretty good, no silver but I did get 13 more coins out of there and 2 of those were wheat pennies.

Well, the presence of wheats indicates that there was activity back in the "Pre-64 Days", but the old units did a good job cleaning out the silver pieces.
I remember reading an article once of an old timer who detected back in the late 60's and 70's and he sold detectors out of his garage.
He had bushel bags filled with old silver coins laying about the garage floor.
So, my friend all we are getting is the left overs. Just having a more expensive machine I am afraid is not enough.
If I find a wheat or two, at least I know there is a possibility of old silver coins.
But, I am fine with rings and clad too.
Congrats on the wheats though. They are getting harder to find too! .

All the confidence meter tells you that the number on the meter corresponds to the target. Helpful with specific coins but as far a trash versus gold rings not very helpful..
Seems to be most accurate on shallow targets whatever they may be...
