F75 Ltd coil air testing

I have 3 coils for this detector, the std 11

I have all three coils, too for my LTD and found the same thing with the two small coils. In fact, more often then not, the 5" appears to be a tad deeper. HH jim tn

Hello Jim,
I kind of expected the little 5" to take the lead myself, but my method of test was not so formal that I could put one over the other. The little elliptical is my latest add, any ideas what to use it for? My hope was to work in trashy areas and get a little more coverage than the 5".

The default settings are set on the mild side for a reason.
As not to overwhelm somebody new to the machine.
If you run it hotter you can gain 3 inches or so.

Air test do have a purpose but the answer is in the soil you hunt in.
Dig a hole then push the coin into the undisturbed ground.
That should give the true answer to the machine in your soil.

Very interesting results; I know with an F70 NOT in boost process (as it does not have one), and not "maxed out" on sensitivity -- but higher than default settings, I get results similar to those of your 1270. My question would be, were the settings on the 1270 a bit closer to "maxed out" than the ones on the F75, or would you consider both to be "mild" settings?

Just curious -- I love these kinds of posts/tests/experiments. But yes, as gmanlight pointed out, the tests are air tests; ground obviously matters big-time.

Steve,

These 2 machines are so different and the F75 has so much in the way of setup like hot or mild as gmanlight said, on the other hand the 1270 is more of this is the way you should set this machine up to run. So with that said I would say the machine was not pushed to the hot side, my though was with the settings I picked I was thinking that may be the way I would run while actual hunting. I have not had this machine out for a hunt because I got it kind of late last year and winter set in on me. Shooter may pickup on this post and he has a lot of experience with the 1270.

My method was probably about the same as yours and 1/2" to 1," at times, was what I was getting. Most importantly, in the ground I have dug deeper coins with the 5," but I do use it more, so that could well be a factor as, too. I feel the 5" is better in the trash. I use the 6 1/2 on medium trashy spots like school yards, around tot lots play ground equipment, metal fences and boulevards, for its little extra coverage and it still allows me to get pretty tight to the poles, fences, and the like. Great Depths, 1270 is an awesome detector goes really deep. A/M's is unbelievable. You have multi-confg with the toggle, just stay below nickels unless its super trashy. don't bother with the silencer toggle never found it very good, and the pin point is kind of wide on large ,shallow targets, Iuse the Iron or AM to pin point. Goes really deep with the 10.5 spider coil, if you have a 10.5 coil from a 1200 series detector it will work on the 1270 (1265, 1266). I have Both 1270 and the LTD, If they could put the target ID number set up on the 1270 You'd have one big contender, It would be a really hot machine.
