F75 LTD What Settings For CW Relics

I have had my black F75 LTD for a while now, and for the most part I have always been a coin hunter. But I live in Chattanooga TN. and want to get into CW relic hunting. So what process and other settings would you experienced relic hunters suggest that I start with.
Thanks
David Layton

I like to use 2F tones at least to begin with. Then you can set your disc anywhere between 6 and 15 but I usually find 6 to be quiet enough. It makes finding non-ferrous in iron easy and there is always iron in CW sites. You'll still get a high tone on a solidshot or cannsiter shot usually.

Then once you've gone over a spot with 2F, switch to disc=6 and one tone and dig anything that gives you a high tone.... you can also try try disc=0 and one tone... if you do that you need to determine where your most common iron is hitting. If it is hitting between 6 and 10 then dig everything 11 and above and everything from 0-5.. you may be surprised.

Then when you've done all you can go back with a Tejon. It is excellent at finding larger and unique iron relics while ignoring all the small stuff.

Also, don't depend too much on the VDI number on the F75 LTD or SE in BP. I am just down the road and can tell you that the ground in NW GA and S TN isn't too good and BP will not give a good VDI or TID number. I was talking to a friend this week. He had gone to a place in SW Atlanta to hunt some ivy at a homesite where some battle had been, They found minnies but he said that none of them ever hit near 57 where aminnie should, said they were all over the place but the tone was right. I like 3H or 4H if I have to hunt by tone... if I can rely on the number of if I am going to dig everything non-ferrous the 2F works fine. I have not used DE much on the LTD but my friend has compared some it to his original F75 on some known targets and says that at least on his LTD the DE is not as sensitive as it was on his original F75 and the VDI isn't nearly as stable.

A local hunter, Keith, is using the GBSE for relic hunting with really good results. I am waiting for the Teknetics G2, want to try it.

Goodluck!

Hey GO-Rebels and Jbow I appreciate your responses to my post and will definitely give those settings a try. I have found the F75LTD to be a great coin machine but am just starting out in relic hunting. The biggest problem I am having is digging in this dry a_ _ ground. We haven't had any real rain since I got this thing a couple of months ago. Tried to hunt Saturday but couldn't dig without leaving a mess. Any way again thanks.

The advice jaybo gave is perfect for disc mode. I gain a couple inches by hunting in motion al metal mode set it to BP then switch to all metal dig every thing that jumps above 15 on the #'s. Also dig all the large iron nails will give a double blip if you swing from different directions. Also when you get a iron signal with the f75 go to pinpoint and it is easy to tell the size of a iron object the 75 does this better than most detectors will hit buttons deep too. Try it any thing that jumps above 15 is likely not to be iron. Give it a shot hunting this way allowed me to recover a very rare GA button that had been missed by many other detectors by me and other hunters that had hunted a camp for five years. The I'd would jump into the 20's about every 3rd sweep. Good luck let us know how you do. I am near Bristol Tn I get down your way some times you got some good hunting down there now I would take relics over coins any time.

Thanks Jason I plan on trying all the suggestions that you folks have given me. I plan on going out this weekend.
Thanks

I know what you mean about the ground.... I got a signal at about 8" a few days ago and promptly switched to a smaller coil. laff.

Some ground is much easier to dig with a hand digger when it is really dry and hard. The shovel, even the Ground Shark don't want to go in but the Lesche hand digger will make quick work of it but it will break it all up and not leave a clean plug. I only do it at places where it doesn't matter it isn't left really neat looking. I fill my holes and rescatter leaves and stuff but it wouldn't pass in a park or lawn. Maybe we'll get some rain soon, we should... and a good frost to kill these dang desperate hungry mosquitos.

The I'd would jump into the 20's about every 3rd sweep. It inspires me to go to a camp i've hunted to death and try AM or disc=0... I guess AM/BP would be quieter and other than that be the same thing if I were using one tone in disc... right?

J

AM is SIGNIFICANTLY quieter than disc. One other thing I would add to what Jason said around any target that jumps around to include both ferrous and non-ferrous signatures.....you must first insure you are exactly over the middle of the target. If you're off just a little bit, iron will bounce up over 16 more often.

I am getting rready to go to town and switched out the T2 for the F75 LTD in my truck. I will have about an hour to toy around with this. I have been distracted by too many new toys and the tendency of the VDI on deeper targets to really bounce around in BP. I will use the 5" coil since that I what is on it, but I have the 11 with me. Going to try and see if I can find any non-ferrous targets disguised as iron. This is BAD ground, iron hill, at least three house fires, many cut square nails.... with the iron ore. I've pulled a LOT of cavalry relics out of there though. Many kinds of carbine bullets, a sutlers token, and box plate (still seeking the oval). I know there is still good stuff there. Most recent good find was a whole Burnside, broken... bent... but whole. Even found an unfired US .22 whole piece.

I will be going back there tomorrow or Sunday for an extended hunt with a friend who wan't to see this and follow behind with his V3 to check targets with it before I dig so we can compare. If it works I may check some with the E-TRAC and Omega and any others I have anyone may want me to try.

Later Tater...

I have dug many deep bullets and buttons at hard hunted sites with the 75 in AM mode also will let you size larg iron targets better. Dug a lot os shell frags like that.
It is quitter to run I can max ot the sensitivity in most spots get a little noise but targets are easy to hear over it. That was a good tip to pi poi t the target and then sweep it centered to get the best reading.

Jbow, it's been a few weeks but how did the hunt go, especially with comparison to the V3? Did you ever get a comparison to your Etrac on common targets?

Yeah, but I only used the LTD. I spent about 45 minutes in AM/BP searching an area of about 800 sq ft. I was watching for any signal that came in above 15 on the TID. I found one nickel sized piece of thin foil... and realized that evening and over the next two days that I cannot hunt that way. The constant watching of the screen gave me a huge neckache and headache that lasted for about 2 1/2 days. So, AM isn't going to work for me. I hope to have some time this PM to try some more but it may be tomorrow. I plan to try with the disc=15 and one tone and dics=6 with 3H tones. I want to try some stuff with the V3 in 22.5 non-normalized. I am wanting to use my Tejon some and of course I need to use the E-TRAC some... I haven't been able to get out and hunt much lately... hopefully that will change soon.

I always look forward to your reviews!

Your dirt must be worse than mine in the upstate of SC. I've done some controlled tests in my red clay on buried silver dimes in sanitized dirt and my LTD performed slightly better than my EX-II w/Pro Coil running the LTD in DISC under any disc setting (even @ 65!). Due to these controlled tests, and the ergonomic improvements over the Minelab, I sold the EX-II.
