F75 noise

Anyone have this problem or does it sound like a problem. While hunting in the woods at old foundations when the 11" coil hits something like a twig sticking up it sounds off, does it all the time, if the undergrowth is heavy its going off all the time. any ideas or is this normal?

Shooter,

The falsing is common on weeds and high grass and twigs. Running in AM will help as well as turning down your Sensitivity.

was running AM SEN was 85, turned it down but no diff. doesn't seem to do it on flat in a park like area unless you bump something.

Mine will do the same thing........But only with sensitivity high........I usually run 40 or less.....Dont hunt the woods and stay mainly in parks..........Must be normal I hope anyways..........:detecting:

my ltd does that with twigs, high stubble etc, I always thought there most me some mechanism that ordinarily gets mechanically triggered to sound off when it hits a field with metal in it. Maybe its such a small gap that even a mechanical shove will initiate it also. But then I know nothing of the workings of these things- but again mine does the same thing. CO

Both my original F75 and LTD false if the coil hits something.

I'll have to keep a notice of it cause the area is full of oak scrubs starter plant about 4 to 5 inches high, but it seems to be pretty unanimous on the noise if you all get it to when bumping something. scrubs are pretty close. Thanks Again.

Shooter, I have heard this discussed in the past, however, most of those references were when the tall grass, leaves and debris were wet. Honestly, I haven't noticed any noise when wet or dry and I even move twigs, pine cones, and other items out of my target area using the coil to shove them away. I guess I need to send mine in for a sensitivity tune up, ya think?

I move stuff with mine too, same stuff as you, but the twigs are rooted, don't think it does it on loose stuff but wasn't paying attention to that, i'll have to check the out thanks Rol.

Oh, I hit rooted stuff with mine as well. I do run a cover on mine, maybe that makes a difference? Maybe you have worn a hole through the plastic into the coils?

Mine has done it since I bought it. I have read that a coil that does this is "microphonic" and defective. I first noticed it when waving a handful of dirt from a hole in front of the coil and my hand bumped the coil. Is the coil defective or is this normal?

My f5 did this a lot. Sent it back to Fisher they said the coil was bad and replaced it with a new coil that has the thumb screw end in stead of the push in coil wire. It works great now

Sounds like they replaced the whole unit, since the newer F5 screw-in coil end is not compatible with the older style push in connector on the control box.

Approximately July of 2010, the F5 started being produced with the typical industry-standard style screw on coil connector.

Before that, the F5 was produced with a push-on coil connector that did not screw on at all.

The screw-on is at least perceived to be more durable, although I never had any problems with the push-on.

The newer screw-on F5 coil has the advantage of being interchangable with all the Teknetics Greek series coils and is more widely available, whereas the older push-on style coil was specific to the F5.

I'm not sure that is normal. I never had twigs, stubble or weeds make either my regular F 75 or my LTD false like that very often. Yes, a good bump on a root or something like that will cause a false, but I've not experienced your situation in brush or weeds. HH jim tn

I'm in the group with Jim.........

Did a tap test on the coil and cable as suggested by Tom Dankowski, when I would tap the coil or the cable connector or 8'10' of the cable it would set the off so I switched to the 5" and it didn't happen. Waiting to hear back from him, I'll let you guys know what he says. I'm leaning to a bad coil.

Ok Tom I did the tap test and tapping the coil sets it off, (sounds like you are getting a hit from an object), also where the cable connect to the coil I tapped the connector and tapped the cable up to about 8" and it sounded off. Switched to the 5" coil and tapped again without getting any response.

Shooter.........you are correct. Metalman......you may still be okay.

Shooter........you are encountering 'microphonics error'. You can send in JUST the coil........let them know I believe it's 'microphonics error'. If they do not understand this......they can ask Dave Johnson or John Gardiner.....of whom are very familiar with this issue. You can keep your F75 at home......install the other coil...........and hunt with this config (while your other coil is being warranty repaired). You may find some interesting 'tuition' with the smaller coil.

Metalman............IF your coil has bad problems with wet grass and small twiggs.......AND can not handle very light taps on the coil wire....or coil.....than you have the same problem. It is usually the coil wire that is excessively 'sensitive'......that is a dead giveaway.

Great skinny, shooter. Almost had to be something like that, as mine doesn't do it at all. I'm sure a lot of folks will appreciate your efforts!

I did and they want me to send the complete detector and coil in instead of just the coil, also besides hitting twigs and stuff and sounding off if you squeeze the coil on the top and bottom by the cable it will also go off. They said the coil is bad. Also this started after I used the F75 in fresh water, it was only about 1' deep.
