F75.....Right Choice ???

Hi. I'm real new at this and this is my first post. While visiting my mom last month, the subject of metal detecting came up. My brother in law had a Whites MXT, and
he showed me how to use it...sort of. On the spur of the moment, my mom offered to purchase one for my wife and I if we wanted one. I quickly looked in a magazine
and without really knowing what I was doing, I picked out a Fisher F75 Limited. Now that I have it, I'm having second thoughts on whether I picked the right one.
All of the sudden I'm thinking maybe I should have picked something like a DFX from White's or Explorer from Minelab. I live in Tampa, FL and we mostly have beaches
here. However, my wife's father is in Savannah, GA and I'm guessing that may be an area for Civil War relics. I guess I'm really just looking for reassurance that I did
pick a good quality, tough, metal detector. Thanks for any help you guys provide.

Wow, nice choice. I have one too, but I worked my way up to it gradually. I think you will be fine if you read the instructions and forums. Don't worry about running it a real high sensitivity at first. Don't be afraid to turn the discrimination up and the sensitivity down. I love my LTD. It will amaze you with its depth and speed. I hunted a bean field today using about 65 sensitivity, discrimination at 6 and dug the high tones. If you are somebody who doesn't want to dig trash, did only the signals that lock in hard and repeat from all four sides. It can be as hard a machine or as easy a machine as you want it to be. It is so light and cheap to run that you can hunt all day.
Take your time and have fun. When it gets to be work, take a break. Celebrate your wins and forget your losses. I have never had a year where I have found so many Indian head pennies. I probably have dug 50 or more this year. My silver count is down some, but I am not really in this for the money.

HH, Don

I don't see you as having made a mistake. My F75 is my first detector, in spite of all the warnings I got against getting one..........'it will drive you crazy' you will never get used to all the racket before giving up ........they were wrong, at leassst The machine is most intuitive and easy to learn. The big think is to get oiut and listen to it and always be thinking aboiut what it is telling you and how it says it. Kinda like learning a foreign language. I'm betting you will be most happy with it in no time@@!! Keep us poster.

Your mom was very gracious...she bought you "THE CORVETTE" of all detectors. Seriously though...the F75LTD is a top of the line detector and you did NOT buy a throw back! Find people on the NET that are serious about their LTD and talk and listen to their experiences. I've got an LTD and love it and I have been relic hunting for many many years. It is a detector that "over time" you will learn to enjoy.

Don't give up on it. It is quieter in AM/BP mode. There are a few places where it may be unstable but at most places you can use it if you just keep at it until you learn it. The LTD is a god detector especially for Florida... it should be good for costal GA too.

Don't be afraid to lower the sens way down if you need to. If you ise it on wet salt sand you will have to manually lower the GB to 0 or 1 to get it to work.

Do a google search for "Tom Dankowski" he has a lot of good F75 info, so does Andy NM "FisherF75 dot com".

Partial quote........" I picked out a Fisher F75 Limited. Now that I have it, I'm having second thoughts on whether I picked the right one."

Your just experiencing Buyer remorse.......... Also your expectations may have been a little high for a first time operator of the machine. That would have been true with any detector you bought.

It takes about 100 hours of steady usage to start getting the max from your , or any detector. F75 is one of the top of the line detectors. Give it time to work for you.

I've had my F75 since Sept and it gets better all the time. I found it very helpful to use it some and then go back to the manual, things start make sense, also reading what these guys and gals are saying on this forum will shorten your learning curve. You did real good on your quick choice.

Good luck

I received my F75 LTD in January of this year. This is my 5th year detecting and the previous 4 were with White's detectors, so....going to the LTD was like starting the learning process all over again. BUT...........I'll never go back! The tips I got from my dealer were simple, start with disc at 21, sensitivity at 50 and BP mode. Use these settings until you think you are starting to understand what she's telling you (however long that takes), don't look for silver at 12" when you start....learn the machine.....learn the machine! Lower the disc and increase the sensitivity slowly until you can handle all the responses....you're gonna be blown away with how powerful this machine is.

As mentioned previously, go to www.dankowskidetectors.com and go into the forum. There you will find a post titled
"Rcpt Ack of F75 Ltd prototype". Read it and re-read it............read it until you grasp it, there is a ton of useful information in that one post.

Good luck and happy hunting!

Dave
