This is my first post to a metal detector forum of any type although I have been reading them for years. My first detector was a Groundhog I bought in 1978. In 1986 I bought an ADS7 which to this day in my opinion was a great machine. I sold it in 1993 and bought a CZ5. This machine I still have and will keep for good. Somewhere in the late 90's I bought a XLT. I kept it for a couple of years. It was a good machine but I chose to always grab the CZ5 and sold the XLT. I sort of put metal detecting on the back burner for a few years raising a family etc.. With my kids gone off to college I started to read forums and field tests looking for a new detector last year. I was pretty much set on the F75 or F70 until the AT Pro came out. I bought this a year ago. It has been a very good machine. I kept track of finds through the years and noticed that my silver finds were not as good as before the AT Pro. Don't get me wrong the AT Pro is a very good machine. It is a killer nickel machine. Last year I found about 3 Indian head pennies and 2 buffalo nickels to every silver dime. It used to be the other way around with dimes being the highest. Maybe the dimes just aren't there. I know the AT Pro runs at a higher frequency than my previous machines. I have studied the forums and field tests again and will add another machine this year. It will be the F75. T2 or the Omega 8000. I live in a small midwestern town of 1000 people. It is 10 miles to the next town. I search lawns of old churches, house lawns, lawns of old country schools and farm ground that is plowed where old churches, picnic grounds and school once stood. I also search old abandoned farmsteads that are very overgrown with years of brome grass. I understand the Omega is probably the best overall coin machine but is probably not as good on the deeper items in the plowed fields. An Omega with 3 coils is about the same price as a T2 Special with 2 coils. The F75 is about $200 higher than the others. Is the T2 and the F75 the same machine. Ground mineralization in my area runs between 78 and 82. As I am getting older I have noticed the AT Pro is easier to swing for a longer period of time than my CZ5 because of the weight. The Omega is about a half pound lighter than the others but should not make too much of a difference. I am sure there are several different opinions on this subject. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
