I would like to know these things too since I just ordered a F75 and would like to know where it is in the food chain. Doesn't look like anyone else knows or cares about this here.

I think but not 100% sure, but functionally there are only 2 F75 models. In honor of Fisher's 75 years in business they came out with the original F75 several years ago. The last part of 2009 they came out with a limited number of the F75-LTD. This had several new features not included in the original F75, and it was camouflage colored. I guess since it sold so well they decided to make more only now they will be black in color. I think that is all there is to it.

I read on one of these posts that of the original F75 there was a model 1 and then a model 2 with just a few minor differences like sealing around the display and such.

yes I think that is correct and you could send in the first model for a small fee and get the new seals and battery springs. I don't think there was any internal differences but not for sure.

That makes me wonder if you could send in an original F75 and get it up graded to the LTD operation wise.

I am confused ..
When it says Special edition on the box is it just a normal F75 or is that a F75 ltd?
Or does the box say F75 ltd on it??

I don't know for sure but I believe the original F75 said special edition because Fisher brought it out to celebrate their 75th anniversary.

I have seen boxes on the Internet that say "75 Year Special Edition" with a black circle on the box that says " Special Limited Edition with new Performance Features" . But when I emailed the seller he said it was not the LTD. Very Confusing!!!

This is very confusing. Maybe a dealer that has been around a long time can help shed some light on this. I'm wondering exactly what I'll be receiving from Richard at Backwoods for my F75 I ordered from him. Maybe when I have time I'll call him since he has been doing this a long time.

Thanks guys,

You're making me feel better, I thought I was the only one confused by all of this F75-F75LTD business.

My box as nsbadge noted above says "75 Year Special Edition" with a black circle on the box that says " Special Limited Edition with new Performance Features", and I know it is the LTD because it is the camo motif and has "bp mode" thanks, CO

There are two different F75's.You have your regular F75 and the F75LTD.The LTD has two boost modes and the earlier LTD was
painted in the camo color and the newer LTD is black. The boost mode on the LTD will get you more depth on targets. Gary

Yes and No.

The difference between the legacy F75 and the F75 LTD is a newer faster microprocessor and two new modes - boost (BP) and cache (BP). The faster processor was required as these new modes tweaked the sampling rates and are much more CPU intensive then the legacy F75 modes. Their similar to the SL mode on the F70, but you have to go really slow with that mode on the F70 as it's CPU isn't as fast as the LTD's CPU.

I don't know if the CPU on the F75 is socketed or soldered on the motherboard, if socketed then it probably could be easily upgraded to the LTD CPU and the eeprom/flash memory reflashed with the LTD software, BUT Fisher has stated they will not offer an upgrade program to the general public. They did do some legacy F75 to LTD upgrades earlier this year for team members of a CW team hunt back east to help sponsor team members using the legacy F75's and it created some PR issues with folks that were told the upgrade wouldn't (note they didn't say couldn't) be done.

HH,
Brian

Sounds do able but with the right know how and equipment. It's somewhat understandable they wouldn't want to offer the up grade as that may reduce the amount of sales on the new LTD from current F75 owners. I think for the price difference I will be fine with the original F75 for sometime to come but you never know until tried. Maybe down the road they may be willing to sell a new swap out replacement board with the new upgrades that those of us willing to do it could swap it ourselves for a price.

Gary is right.

And FT has made this F75/Limited Edition/Special Edition in Black a lot more confusing than it needed to be.

The original F75 was marketed as the "special edition" on the box, I guess because it was released to coincide with Fisher's 75th anniversary. Nobody in the detecting world calls it the special edition, it's just the F75, But you always see it advertised for sale on auction sites and such as the F75 special edition.

When I bought my LTD last year, it came in the original F75 box with only a round sticker attached that said "Special Limited Edition with new Performance Features" to distinguish the box from the original F75.

FT has repeatedly said that they will not be doing LTD upgrades on the original F75, although they apparently did do courtesy upgrades like Brian said on the qt (until someone spilled the beans by putting their detector with a full description of the upgrade on an auction site) for members of the Fisher GNationalRS team.

NSbadge, if the box has a sticker that says Special Limited Edition with new Performance Features, then the box is the LTD box. If the seller then tells you that the detector is not the LTD, then the box being pictured is not the one that came with the detector.

You are probably right. Here is a link to the completed auction. It could not have been the original box.

When I saw this auction it just added to the confusion.
