I was dragging butt this morning and didn't leave the house until just after 7:30. I headed out to a old park to try my luck. I set the sensitively at 85, 4H tones and used the boost mode. The ground was dry and hard due to the lack of rain, so I mainly hunted the low areas that had softer ground. About an hour into the hunt, I got a nice clean high tone with the VDI numbers bouncing around 85. I knew that it was a good chance of being a silver quarter, so I was careful to dig a big enough plug so I wouldn't damage the coin. Sure enough, out pops a 1906 Barber Quarter, my 5th Barber Quarter for the year. Whoopee! After digging, I checked the hole and the area around the hole in hopes that there was more than the one coin dropped. I got a funky bouncy nickel reading about a foot or so away from where I dug the Barber Quarter. I uncovered a Buffalo Nickel that was around 6 inches deep. All in all, I ended up finding a Indian Head Pendant of sorts, a 1943 War Nickel, an old pencil keeper and a couple of Wheat Pennies (1951, 1957). It was a short hunt. This heat and dry hard ground is going to take some time to get used to.

Nice Recoveries tabman

Tabby! beauty barber Q and a good day you put in for such a late start!:clapping: Seems like a fellow has to hit it early and hard or not at all...I know I lose any desire to hunt once the sun comes up, so If I'm not already out and at it, I go to work instead...:sadwalk:

Regarding feeling all worn out with no energy, "dragging butt" so to speak, they now have a medical term for that, M.A.I.D.S....stands for... "My @ss Is Draggin' Syndrome" only cure seems to be getting up at 5am, drinking lotsa coffee, checking the Forums, and finding gold or silver!

Great finds, congrats!!! Sure wish I had a site where I could find some silver, but don't, so will have to be happy with gold, 925 and clad.

Elton, I don't have a wide angle lens for my camera.

I have a feeling that my silver finds are about to dry up. It's getting a little warm out there. It's time for the northern boys to pickup the slack.

Really. How long can you and Jim hunt down there Tabman ?. Is that just area specific, (WOODS) or is that everywhere for your detecting this time of the year...

The Woods hunting is over for the year. There are too many things that can bite you and the undergrowth is too thick to swing a coil. We don't do a whole lot of woods hunting anyway. The Summer months around here are hot and humid. It's best to get a super early start before things begin to heat up. About sunrise. Another problem that we have is the soft ground that we normally have becomes like concrete due to the lack of rain. Except for a few months we have perfect detecting weather and conditions.

No snow piles and deep snow for us to have to contend with.
