I was dragging butt this morning and didn't leave the house until just after 7:30. I headed out to a old park to try my luck. I set the sensitively at 85, 4H tones and used the boost mode. The ground was dry and hard due to the lack of rain, so I mainly hunted the low areas that had softer ground. About an hour into the hunt, I got a nice clean high tone with the VDI numbers bouncing around 85. I knew that it was a good chance of being a silver quarter, so I was careful to dig a big enough plug so I wouldn't damage the coin. Sure enough, out pops a 1906 Barber Quarter, my 5th Barber Quarter for the year. Whoopee! After digging, I checked the hole and the area around the hole in hopes that there was more than the one coin dropped. I got a funky bouncy nickel reading about a foot or so away from where I dug the Barber Quarter. I uncovered a Buffalo Nickel that was around 6 inches deep. All in all, I ended up finding a Indian Head Pendant of sorts, a 1943 War Nickel, an old pencil keeper and a couple of Wheat Pennies (1951, 1957). It was a short hunt. This heat and dry hard ground is going to take some time to get used to.
