F75se Nails and some iron sounding like silver

I checked my manual. It says: "F1 is the lowest frequency and the default frequency." However, when I turn it off and back on it always defaults to F7 regardless of where I previously set it. So who knows. Your machine might be F4, mine is F7 and the manual says F1. Maybe the newer versions have a different default setting.

All of my previous detectors had 3 or more tones, with silver of course being the highest tone. I don't think I could get used to hunting with just one tone. But with the F75 in All Metal mode, you essentially do have only one tone. The tone increases in frequency as the coil gets closer to the target. ALL targets, from nails to silver, give exactly the same response which means you have to keep your eyes glued to the display to see what the target is...or maybe is. Not crazy about that aspect of the F75. So I pretty much stay out of the All Metal mode.

Just reset mine and it comes up F1

I'm with you 1-tone is the best that I find to use , it makes this "noise maker" a lot better to use and omits a lot of falsing and chatter. I to almost always sweep in 0ne-tone, i'll change to 4 or 4H if there are possible Indian heads because of the just below high tone they produce, you can't mistake the tone on an IH with a 57-63 ID. 1-tones the way to ..........

OK Terra explain the 95-99 notching, give the complete data setup and is it a notch in or out, you excepting or canceling out 95-99, your "NOTCHING" is confusing.

Ok, mine also comes up in F! after a factory reset. If you push the trigger forward and hit the menu button it goes from F1 to F7, then F6, F5 and so forth and if you pull it towards you and push the menu button right after a factory reset it goes to F2, F3, F4 and so forth. So it starts out at F1.
I haven't tried the monotone, I guess it's time I tried it. What can I lose. Learn something new everyday.

The issue is caused because some pieces of iron have a very high conductivity and they wrap around from the bottom of the scale to the top. The highest a piece of silver will usually dig is about 94 for a silver dollar. So what you can do is to notch out 95 on up to 99. 95 is usually a hot rock and iron that wraps around is usually in the 96 to 99 range. This won't totally get rid of the high pitched iron as some of it will read even lower than 95 but it will cause some of it to be discriminated out and the rest will break up more making it easier to spot. If I am at all unsure of the target then I will switch to all metal and look at it in that mode too.

One other thing I have noticed is that the mineralization meter will usually show 2 or 3 segments when you are over an iron target. Another thing that can sometimes help is to watch the confidence meter as the numbers jump around. Sometimes it will jump up when the TID is in the iron range and drop down when they are higher up. I have dug a number of targets like this to see how accurate the confidence meter is and have satisified myself that it is acccurate enough to pay attention to. The problem with it is that a lot of the time it won't jump up at all on an iffy target.

Maybe I am missing something I just tried my F75Ltd and I could not get the notch or the disc to go past 65.

Just wondering,

Did the same thing last night after I read that and I couldn't do it either.HMMMMMMMMMMMM

I know I will get a lot of flack over this, but I was having so much trouble with my F75Ltd that I was just about to put it in the closet and use something else. But I found if I just run one tone and back the sensitivity down just out of the noise it runs just fine.

I decided one day in the park that somethings got to give, either get it running or else. So I ran the disc up to max and set for one tone, I popped a silver dime right away and was moving along pretty good. Then I thought well I am at max disc so everything should be high tone anyway, so I switch to 3 tones and as stated above I was stopped dead in my tracks. I switched back to one tone, everything was fine again. I did this switch several times and it was the same every time.

So about all I can say is try one tone, I think that will fix your problem. Also run your disc wherever you want, no magic number.

Good luck,

Update to my monotone statement
Yesterday I went back to the park and I spent a half hour or so just playing with settings. Again tried 3 tones and dp same results chatter. I tried F1 and found that the machine was as stable as one tone (monotone). I ran it all day like that and I didn't need to back off the sensitivity it was set to max 99 and the machine ran fine.

One thing I noticed as I was going through the settings, I started off doing a factory reset, ran the sensitivity to max (thinking I would need to back down later) set the processor to Je and then went to tones. I noticed a slight background noise ( a hum ) in all the tone settings except 1 and F1. I am sure it has always been there, I just never noticed it before.

Yes it's the internal processor hearing the cycles if I back the sensitivity down as soon as I get to 87 and under I can't hear it any more on my F75LTD. I have a manual here of the F75 and it's dated Feb.28 2007 and on the frequency shifting page in it towards the rear of this manual it states that channel F4 is the factory default channel. Says that after powering off it retains any channel change setting. Try a factory reset where you push switch I think forewards and hold down the menu red button and then turn detector on and after a few seconds it says something on the screen like LTD or SE let go of switch and button then go in and see if it set the channel to F4 or not. I will do a bit of scouting on the internet and see if I can find an online manual for the F75 LTD and see if it's different. It's really not a big deal it says to find the channel with the least amount of noise with max sensitivity while holding the coil off the ground and parralel to it before you do anything else then either lower sensitivity or add discrimination from 1 up to 6 to get it to quiet down then ground grab ballance and go hunt.

Am i missing something i dont think i can notch in the 90's. 65 is as far as notch works on my 75. Please explain how to do this i have high conductivity nails wrap around as well.

Your right that always there with very high sen. setting on 2 tones and up it will go away if you drop SEN around 90 or lower, I even get that on the 1270, Kind of like 6the old threshold sould you'd tune to on a VLF detector.
