Facebook Isn't What It Used To Be......

And, for a host of reasons I'll not go into here, believe my personal information was in jeopardy. I have therefore deleted my account with FB and will no longer be a part of it. Rather than send a private message to each of you listed as friends on my account there, I've elected to share this with you all here.

Depends on how it's used. I've been on FB for several years and haven't let the devil work in or through me there, and I haven't been negatively affected by anything there. Some people do use it for evil, but if you're not one of those people, then it isn't the devil's workshop. Guess it all depends on how it's used and the individuals who are using it. ANYTHING can be the devil's workshop - including this forum - if we use it that way or allow it to be used that way. There are ways in which FB can be a threat to your information, but if you actively use the safety tools they offer, you will usually be OK. FB can be sneaky though, so you have to make the effort to stay on top of the safety features.

Actually, our Metal Detecting Club here in Calgary uses facebook as one of our best means of communication. We created a club group page, and use it to schedule hunts together, and encourage newbies in the hobby. people can publish photos of their finds, or ask for help identifying something they haven't seem before. Facebook can be an excellent tool when used properly. Of course people should be very wary of the type of personal information that they publish - but that is the same with everything. Our church youth group also has a facebook group page, and it is cool to see that they use it to publish the things that God is doing in their lives.

My Mom is on facebook, and thinks it is a fantastic way to keep track of the grand-kids. Hers vary in age from 45 to 8. She only has been on the computer for 3 or 4 years, but has grandchildren all over the world.

Have to agree with Lisa and PeggyK. I"m not on FB as much as I used to be, but it is not because I am unhappy...just BUSY! FB allows me to keep up with friends and family that I am unable to see often. Being smart about what is posted AND using proper safety measures will take care of most problems. A small price to pay if you ask me. A little common sense goes a long way ;)

Okay...Several of you have convinced me to re-intstate my account on Facebook. How long I'll remain I don't know. There are many things I like about FB but there are many things I dislike as well. It's a nice way of communication with friends and or family you don't see all that much but corporate continues to change the function and look of the pages and, at times, it takes some getting used to. It's not always user friendly as far as I'm concerned. So, for now, I'm back but I don't know for how long.

Martin, it's OK not to like FB! lol Different strokes for different folks, ya know. If you aren't comfortable with it, then maybe it's just not something you want to have to deal with. I, too, get frustrated with their constant changes and I think the Timeline is a load of crap! I seldom go to my Timeline page; I click on HOME and it takes me to my wall which, for the most part, hasn't changed very much in over a year. As for the Timeline, it is NOT user friendly and can be very confusing! Ugh... I think the Wall itself IS user friendly (where all the posts show up - not my info/Timeline page). I wish this forum was as user friendly as my Wall page! I don't like having to do all the clicking and scrolling that is required here on the forum. On the FB Wall, it's all right there to see and requires only one click to reply (and NO clicks to see what everyone else is saying). If there is anything I can do to help you with FB, just let me know.
