fairbanks wear do i go to metal detect for gold

moving to fairbanks this spring if i get a day or two to go metal detecting wear is the best place to go out of fairbanks to look for gold nuggets . thanks

There are almost no decent public mining locations near Fairbanks, the best probably being Nome Creek, about 60 miles north of town. http://www.blm.gov/ak/st/en/prog/nlcs/white_mtns/summer_recreation/nome_creek_valley.html

The way I would go about it if I was there is to research the gold bearing creeks in the area via USGS reports freely available on the Internet. Then I would use the online Alaska Mapper land mapping program to research and contact claim owners on those creeks for permission to hunt gold. It may require cutting a percentage deal of some sort. http://akmining.info

Attending meetings of the local Alaska Miners Association can be a way to meet the real miners who own the best ground. It is not a club but a mining association of seriously committed miners, many who do it for a living. Those folks are the real deal and well worth getting to know. http://alaskaminers.org/event/fairbanks-branch-meeting-2-2/2016-02-26/

It won't be easy obviously but great rewards remain in the Fairbanks area for the committed prospector willing to make the effort. Good luck!
