Falsing issues

From the field tests I ran at various gains and sens settings on the SE I did not see any magical depth increase over the XS or II and the SE went quiet on targets when I raised the coil just an inch or two just as the XS and II do.

It is hotter on small targets, I compared this to an XS on the same target before I dug. That bodes well for beach hunting for smaller gold. In fact there are quite a number of new features on the SE I really want to check out, but my particular SE is heading back to Minelab.

Mike,

My gut feeling is that this effect is caused by ground mineralization, as the coil gets farther off the ground it doesn't ground eliminate as well. Be cool if someone could try different heights in mild soil.

I've always had the best luck late fall or early spring when the grass cover is minimal and I can get the coil right down on the deck. During the summer I've used the 8" coil on thick turf- often get a real faint hit and dig out a 3" deep wheatie. (this is in town with the sens turned down because of EMI) I've pretty much given up on summer detecting. The WOT seems to do better with an airspace.

I didn't notice page 19 in the SE manual until this unit. I've hunted without scrubbing the ground with it and have no falsing yet.
Your guess is as good as mine.

And if I'm losing depth by keeping the coil an inch off the ground then I've got some rethinking to do.
