Traveled 6 hrs. from Southern NJ to Upstate NY (Lake Ontario area) this weekend for a trip to visit my wife's relatives. They live on 46 acres, much of which are corn stalks. Of course I wanted to get out and explore desperately, but I didn't want my mding to override the family time. Finally, Sat. afternoon I got out and was like a kid in a candy store with all that space to explore. It was overwhelming. Well, after 2 hrs., ground like concrete due to the lack of rain, and increasing discouragement, I found only some bullets, a modern key, and half a horshoe. Then, this morning before we left, I got out for a 45-min. hunt. About 30 mins. into it I got a great hit on their side yard with a vdi ranging from 88-90 (strange, b/c seems a little too high for what it was) and 4-6 inches down popped out my 1st large cent. I was elated. Can't get an exact date, but I can make out the last digit (7), which would make it "18_7." Anyway, I drove the entire 6-hr. return trip with a smile on my face. She didn't clean up as well as I'd hoped, but she's a keeper. HH.

If you want to clean it up, there are ways - of course the coin collectors would likely say 'don't touch it' , heh. But if you're going to keep it and want to clean it, maybe electrolysis or Hydrogen Peroxide (search on them) or the long olive oil soak and toothpick method. It looks to be in nice condition.
