Farm hunt today gives up more injuns and relics

Goes4ever

New member
saw an abandoned house with a realtor sign in it the other day, gave the realtor and call and asked them if I could hunt it, they gave me the green light! I went out today and I am thinking this place may have been hit before, signals were far and few between EXCEPT iron....lol

Got a 1902 and 1909 Indian and before u ask, it was Not an "S".....lol....got a 1936 wheat, and a few relics. Good little hunt, puts me at 15 injuns for this season! here is a vid I made as well

Nice coins there , it would have been nice if that was a s 1909. Still a good though.

1st let me say nice finds!!!
I do want to pass along some info. If the Realtor didn't call the owner they don't have the right to give the go a head. Only the owner can. I one time stopped and knocked on a door and asked the owner if I could hunt the yard. she said OK. After an hour a rather large and angry man pulled in the driveway and asked what I was doing. I told him I had asked his wife or girlfriend and she said OK. He then informed me that she was just a renter and he was the owner. I told him I was sorry and that I did the right thing and asked and if he wanted I'd leave. He said yes I would like you to leave and that he was going to go see her and tell here a thing or two. Looking back I don't think I'd change my way of asking by asking after a OK to hunt if they owned the place and don't think it would happen very often.
Just wanted to make a point its only the owner who can give an OK to hunt.
Once again nice finds

OK OK enough is enough. Ive asked so many people if i could detect old areas etc and i ALWAYS get the thumbs down or no call backs. What are you asking? I mean really lol I'm getting a little bummed about not finding anything but beer cans and pull tabs and re-bar. Oh and nails. lots of nails. So how is it you're asking what do you guys say when you're asking to hunt their property?

Greg, this house was repossessed, so the realtor actually did have the right to give me permission!

Ok I do this every week, have done it a hundred times easily

1. do it in PERSON, do not call. Visit the owner face to face
2. Be real polite
3. don't be dressed like a slob, you will make them think if you don't care about yourself why would you care about their property
4. introduce yourself, explain to them about your hobby and I say stuff like "I like to look for old pennies and buttons" do not mention silver coins or anything that sounds like it is worth money or instantly people think they want your finds.
5. let them know you are very careful at "retrieving targets" do use the word "DIG", explain that you will leave their yard exactly as it was when you arrived and you will remove all trash.
6. never brag to an owner about previous finds that were worth a decent amount, and never "do the happy dance" if they are home..lol

I average 8 out of 10 people telling me "yes" if I ask in person, when I am lazy and yes I get that way sometimes I will call people, and then I might get about 6 out of 10 people to say yes.

good luck, it is not that hard. In this hobby you better learn to do it, private property is the BEST place to hunt.

Thanks man much appreciated. I'll keep those tips in mind. And no worries I doubt me bragging about the beer cans will make them get enthused at all haha. JK! Thanks again.

Ya did good again, Wheaties and Injuns Man! :) May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

yes DK, 9 out of 10 people give me permission using the steps I outlines above. I guess the area a person lives in will give varying results. But in my area people are mostly trusting, and a lot of farmers. Most trust you after talking to them for a few minutes. I guess they fell they can size a person up in a few moments. Whatever it is, it works for me. I am still using craigs list ads to get houses too. In fact I am hunting a 1900 farm tomorrow after church. The person saw my CL ad and replied giving me permission to hunt.

Really cool when people email you and give you permission, and you don't even have to ask.... how cool is that?

Gotta have the permission. You know those out there who just decide to go digging without asking permission are the ones who are ruining it for the rest of us. Again, I like your rules of order. If you look like a slob they will think you are a slob. I like looking for houses being sold by the owner. They usually leave a phone number on the For Sale sign. I tried Craigs List once, but all I got was someone looking for a little side action, ya know what I mean?

I have never once had a single problem with CL, I run ads on there yr round to buy coins and to seek properties to metal detect. I also run a third ad stating I will help people who lost items such as a ring, keys etc.....

I did that. You posted how you did it some time ago, I think early last year soes I did it too. I did not respond to this online request, but I guess I need to try it again and see what happens.

I should post my ad on here again for those who would like to try it, as long as they don't live close to me...lol
I don't need competition :clapping:

Terry. I still like your posted videos. Do you have more on you tube that we can watch?
