Feb/March Finds...

Craig-PI

New member
I'm not through hunting this month but I figured I would share some of my finds... I did a lot of research over the fall and winter months looking for area's I thought could be productive... I can't compete with the southern hunters but I hold my own ;) I am also not after new drops... I prefer instead to hunt old supposedly hunted out spots with my Dual Field PI... I found quite a bit of silver coins at this spot but not enough room in the picture.. 13 gold, a few silver rings and old brass rings... plus some of the old relics that come up as well... hope you enjoy :)

That's fantastic work Craig! Doesn't look like you have any problems producing numbers. Great Finds!

I'll never find what you find Dig ;) Our swim season is very short compared to yours ;)

Short but sweet!..Nice haul......................joe

those old rings are great finds. what a great feeling finding them in spots others have hunted alot, done that myself and its special.

I always hear.... how do you find all that old stuff i cant find any. Well i think Craig has shown research and finding a great location is the key as much as having a great detector. Very impressive Craig. I know in the sand people use sand scoops.... what kind of tool or shovel would one use in fresh water where the bottom is mud and you are using a PI?

Dew

I use a Babbs scoop with the stainless lip... when needed I use my sifter even though I hate it lol...

Ai Yi Yi,

Nice haul.

Sounds like you hunt old no longer used areas, where a lot of foliage, leaves and mud is present. I have just such a place in mind if I can only locate the new owners (I'm sixty five and many locals swam there when I was a kid as we had no lake or swimming pools) and get permission to hunt. Is this the reason you don't like your sifter as it looks to be a pretty well set up outfit. Charles

I don't like using because my PI see's it... I have to keep pushing it away from me or get it in the current so it runs down stream... many beaches here in Connecticut are used like a tanning salon these days, they aren't used for swimming...

I have 2 swimming holes on my list of places to hunt that were very active in the early 1900's... I talk with a lot of old timers and go to the historical society to look at old local pictures of beaches and such... I have 5 beach area yet to be hunted by me that I know no one hunted in recent years...

I don't go to the beach and meander down the lane... I look for specific spots where the pictures and post cards showed activity and my favorite swim platforms... plus I read a beach pretty well and look for washed out areas and troughs..

You gotter figured out Craig!

Those are great finds resulting from your detective skill and hard work.

Say Bud, when you get a chance I can help you build a sifter that works great and doesn't cause you any signal problems.

SUPER SIFTER

No metal used and light weight.

The only thing I have ever seen slip through the small holes was a tiny piece of wire and once a piece of tiny silver chain.

Garrett's pan optional (kinda handy in large gravel)

I'll give you a call later on CJ, I have a pick up painting job this morning... I'm hoping I can finish early enough to take a spin this afternoon before the rain and snow moves in again later tonight and tomorrow...

Craig, How does the DUAL-FIELD Discrimination WORK in regards to STANDARD Discrimination? Can you tell ALL FERROUS Targets from ALL NON-
FERROUS Targets? Do you have any personal experience with the GARRETT SEA-HUNTER MARK-II, and HOW does that compare in DISCRIMINATION
to the WHITES DUAL-FIELD? Anyone reading this post, FEEL FREE to offer YOUR ADVICE if it PERTAINS to PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with either one
of these PI Detectors!! MANY THANKS, Les Robinson

There is no dicrimination... but I can by ear tell when I am over certain targets... any discrimination at least for me means I am giving up depth and I rather dig a few extra pieces of junk if it means getting down where most other detectors can't...

From personal experience and really learning the subtle differences within the tone I usually know when I am over can tops and iron both give off a long drawn out signal... wire, nails and sparkler sticks are a broken scratchy double tone... bottlecaps are more difficult by they are a wider than a coin sized object and in my ear are fuzzy sounding... I dig junk but don't dig wire, nails, can tops etc... hope that helps you...
