ferrites and coils

Eric, have you done much testing with using ferrite cores in your coils? From what I understand (and from my testing) inserting a ferrite core into a coil increases the inductance of the coil dramatically, but I wonder what it does to the field of the coil.

Eric, Do you wind the coils toroidally? What do you use for a Faraday shield? Dave. * * *

Hi Dave,
Winding is just a straight solenoid type. Either 10/0.1mm pvc insulated or 1/0.25 wirewrap wire. I use lead foil for shielding grounded to coil ground.
Eric.

Hi Eric,
can you please tell us, which ferrite form gives best results? - does it a long or short cilinder (and which D/L ratio is best), or a E-form from power transformer, or perhaps U-form?
thanks
Walter
