final story on my winged pin...

dobbie

New member
ok so here it is the neat story of the wings I found...At least I think it's neat......Back in the 30s-40s era there was a radio show hosted by a man named Jimmie Allen. The show broadcasted stories about the airforce fighter planes aces etc.Kids who listened to the show could send in for these winged pins. The pins showed they were part of Jimmie's fan club called....The Flying Cadets....They were made of brass and plated in gold. Thought I would share of more simpler times, and a bit of American History as well. Hope you enjoyed the story. Bye...

Good story dobbie and now that you mention Jimmie Allen I think somewhere in my memory, I remember that name! We used to listen to the old radio shows in the 40's while mom and I ironed on Saturdays! They were real neat to listen to even during the evenings when we arrived home from school and had all of our work done! Most of the programs gave out items like wings, rings and code breakers and such! But Cliff and I never sent for any and I really don't know why, unless we didn't want to take the time to send for them or the postage was too expensive for mom and dad to pay or to pay for the premium if there was a cost! Thanks for the story....very interesting!

God Bless!
