Finally been getting out lately with some neat finds.

After finishing the extension, I've been able to get out a fair bit over the last couple of weeks. Shool holidays helped, as normal routines been relaxed. I've been using the Explorer, X-Terra and GTI 1500.
Saturday week back, I snagged my first ever silver florin, plus other copper pre decimal coins. Not to mention a healthy collection of modern coins ($66) using the Explorer.
Saturday just past, I took out the GTI and snagged $27 plus my second florin (sweet:thumbup:) plus a few other pre-decimals. Found over $70 in modern coins over a few hunts with the GTI. After only a couple of hours. My arm was getting a bit tied so I switched over to the X-Terra to take the weight off. Picked up another $70 plus a three pence (a very small silver coin) plus a few more pre-decimals. Finishing the day only $3 short of a hundred was only a very minor disappointment, but my fingers were getting tender and how could you not be happy with a haul like that after only 7 hours of detecting.
I was hunting in my sons' former school, which I'd lined up with the Principal to do over the holidays. I was too busy on Sunday to hunt, but with a total of $295 ($293 for that one location alone) I was pretty happy. I personal record for a single location in a single hunt period. I also recovered a total of 13 pre-decimal coins, with 6 of them coming to light on that last hunt.
The photos show the total coins found plus the pre-decimals. I put the dime and zinc penny in the photo to give you the idea of size. If you look above the dime, you will see the three pence.

Thats some serious coinage.:clapping: Them kids must have holes in their pockets. All that digging and not one ring is odd. I found a three pence here in michigan not long ago, seems it did not ring in as silver. Smaller than a US dime and thinner. Not many silvers are smaller.
Whats the years of the pre D coins?

That is some total. Makes me feel like a rank amateur.

Congrats on the two big silver pieces too. That was some weekend!

Question: is canadian coinage the same as US coinage??( Example: 100 canadian pennies = one canadian dollar) If so, then I really wish the US would make higher denomination coins.

Also, what are the denominations of Canadian coins??

1 cent piece

these are all metal
up to the toonie
the rest are linen
type paper with foil insertion to counter reproduction (counterfeiting)

5 cent = nickel
10 cent= dime
25 cent= quarter
50 cent= half-dollar
1.00 =loonie
2.00 =toonie

$295 is a sweet total :please: it's been a wile since I've cracked the $20 mark wile water hunting people don't seem to lose as much out there as in the parks i think I'm going do some land hunting with the ace to bump up the kitty as I'm running a bit low.

Finding a three pence in the States would have been awesome! They're hard enough to find over here!:clapping: Some of them are only half silver (Aussie ones went that way after 1945. I don't know about the English ones). It would hit as a 6 on the GTI.
The dates are as follows. Florins: 1947 and 1961.
Three pence 1955.
Pennies 1944, 1947, 1952, 1952, and 1960.
Half pennies: 1922, 1939,1948, 1949 and 1964.
They went out of circulation in 1966. Our one and two cent pieces went out of circulation somewhere around 1984.
Oh, BTW, if you look closely at the main picture, you'll see 2 rings, one being silver.
The kids must have developed big holes in their pockets this year as the most I pulled out of there was $120. Either that, or I'm just improving my technique somewhat.

While the values may be higher Chis, I don't hold a candle to you with the number of coins recovered! I'm just lucky to be born in a country that has $1 and $2 coins (that are easy to detect).

G'day Lazy. Yeah I'm going well if I find over $5 in a hunt. Having hunts like this are great when you get them. I might only get a few in a year. Mostly whenever I get down to Sydney. Man; I just go to town when I get down there. I only do some bark chipping down there these days. I've found more productive areas now, so I'm going to focus more on them. I've got my eye on some possible very juicy spots at the moment that I may be able to get to in the next few months, but they are several hours drive away.

well done Mick ,,great hall of coins ,, I can remember finding my first and only florin about 18 years ago when still in school, had a park at the end of our street that I worked on for ages, with my old radio shack,, it took some time but learning more about my machine as i went made finding the better targets easier,,have getting out a bit after work the last couple of days to our show grounds and have averaged 7 decimals every trip,, but it is a very trashy area as it is not hard to dig 20 or 30 ring pulls in about a square meter,, the show grounds are about 120 years old but have had a lot of modern changes and as yet have not pulled any pre decimals as finding the older areas has been a bit dificult with all the new earth works,

Cheers Roger

You seem to always have great finds.

If I found the as much, value wise, I wouldn't mind buying a few more detectors to play with. With what I find, I can't justify it to my wife.

Those 3 pence aren't that hard to find. I found a 1943 one two years ago, besides they were made in the states. Maybe you should came over here and do a little MD'ing. If you are in the neighborhood, give me a call. :twodetecting::usaflag:

Actually, coming over the the States and detecting with a few on the forum here, is a bit of a pipe dream of mine. What better than visit another country and meet folks that you talk to.
I also have a interest in old warbirds as well, so in part, I'd love to see the likes of the Confederate air force in action and see some of those real rare warbirds fly!
Mick Evans.
P.S. Who knows, once the kids grow up, I may well just do that. The missus has already travelled around a bit, So this time, we can do it together.
