Finally found a silver coin with my Sovereign GT

After about 7 months of hunting on and off with the Sovereign GT and finding 2 indian head cents, a pile of wheat pennies and clad,I finally found my first silver coin today at a local park.
It is a 1941 mercury dime and it was about 5 inches down.
I had the sensitivity turned down to about 3:00 in order to maintain a steady threshold, so I guess being able to detect this coin at that depth is pretty good.
Hopefully they will start coming in a little more often now.
Right now just guessing, I think I have dug about 15 wheat pennies before finding this silver coin.. hope I don't have to wait that long next time.

Nice Merc Mr.Fwcrawford. Have you tried a meter on your Sov.? It sure helped me to sort out what the tones were telling me. Remember what that silver tone sounded like. There aren't many more that sound that way. Again, congrat's on that pretty dime.

I do have a meter on the detector and it sure does help.
This signal bounced around for some reason and as best as I can remember, it only read from on direction, but did manage to climb to the 180 on the meter.
I thought it might be a trash item and to tell you the truth, I was somewhat surprised to see this come out of the plug.
The wheaties I found before gave nice repeatable signals from two different directions, but I don't know what was going on here.
I'm not sure of the position of the dime in the plug.. maybe it was on edge.
I checked the area after finding the dime and didn't get any other signals or nulling.
I'm still learning this detector so I have a lot to figure out as far as those deep signals go and how to interpret them.

Hey Felix. I've had a few like that myself, kinda bouncing around but the tone is really what gives it away. Use your ear's first then confirm with the meter. But just don't let the meter be the deciding factor to dig or not. if there is any doubt just dig it.

Nice find. Now those little chirps and beeps will have you doing a lot more investigating and your silver finds will go up. I have'nt used a machine that can lock on deep silver like a Minelab. Again great find and it sure won't be your last. HH
