It is a hand held corn husker, Pat. in 1882. I must have dug 4 or 5 of these but this is the first with a name on it. Good Luck

Nice find, goldenmask, if it's too worn to make out, the lettering reads:
Universal Husker Pat'd Feb 21 1882 A.W. Brinkerhoff & Son Upper Sandusky Ohio

 
Don't think it's trash... look close. Kc Steve , He always comes up with the goods .

Thanks Steve, I've got the maker, I have found bits and pieces of these not knowing what the ? is this, That is what makes detecting fun
