Here is finds that my Explorer XS was able to find from Saturday and Sunday. I've been busy with work and other things so sorry for the wait everyone. Let's get started.
Saturday, I went detecting solo since Tim never called me up Friday so I take it him and Dan went out somewhere and did some camping together. Dan had a week off so I'm sure that they probably left during the week when I had to work.
Anyways, I decided to go check out a Park that Tim told me he and Dan had pulled a few Wheats and a Merc or 2 and Tim told me it wasn't worth stopping at since there was little found when they were their. Well, I had a feeling that this Park had some goodies in it somewhere and here was a perfect chance to go give it a shot. The Park was a pretty big Park with Ball Diamonds in it. I didn't get to try the Diamonds this time since they were in use at the time so maybe this fall. I pulled into the parking lot and when I did, I noticed something right were I was going to park. I thought it was a dead bird and didn't think much of it at the time and parked over top of it. I got out and started detecting. Only a few minutes later, I dug up my first Wheat for the day. About 15 minutes later, I got another Wheatie. I could tell some of the Park had been re-landscaped at some point so I knew it was going to be slow where I started hunting at. I then decided to go across the road to another section where a water fountain was located. I started swinging along a path and found 3 more Wheats and a Button with a Flower on it. I then crossed over to another section of the Park and started to find a few Deep Screw Caps so I didn't try this long. I did manage to pop out another Wheatie here though. I then decided to go over by a Monument and search there. The ground looked higher and I didn't think I would find anything here since it looked like it was built up before. Guess I was wrong about that! I started to find a few Wheats over in this section and then I popped out a 1910 Barber Dime. Woohoo!!!
I then decided to pattern the area and then started to pull a few more Wheats and also pulled 3 Merc's from here as well. I then hunted a bit longer and decided to go back to the Park where Tim and I had found all them Deep Wheats at on previous hunts. As I backed up, I seen the dead bird and was about to leave but something just didn't look right so I backed up about 15' and got out to see what it was. It turned out to be a Ty Beanie Baby named Roxie. It's a Deer and quite cute so this will have to be my Misc. Find for the Month on Friday. Good thing I checked it out!
So off to Site #2!
I got to the Park and decided to try by the river once again, since last time I was still popping out Wheats and a Barber Dime before we left on the last visit here. I started hunting and about 5 minutes into it, I found my first Wheatie that was close to 12" Deep. It's amazing just how Deep these Coins are here and the Signals are barely there but you can get them if you work them with the "Minelab Wiggle". I continued hunting and started to find a couple more Deep Wheats. I couldn't believe that there still was a good amount of Coins here since there was 4 detectors through here a few weekends ago. Just goes to show that some Coins have to be hit at specific angles and have just the right swing speed to get any signal from these Ultra Deep Coins. Anyways, I continued hunting and got a 27-28 on Digital that showed on the Depth Meter around 10". I was hoping for a Barber Dime since they will sometimes do that when they are really Deep. I dug down and about 11" down, out comes a Silver Dime. I immediately thought Barber so I carefully looked at it and to my surprise, it turned out to be a 1946-d Roosevelt Dime!
I couldn't believe that a Roosevelt Dime was that Deep here since all the other Silver's found in this location have been either Barber or Older Merc's. I'm just glad it was Silver so continued onward.
I then got a Deep Signal that was reading 28 and was around the 10" mark on the Depth Meter again. I dug down and got down to about 8" and no signal with the X-1 Probe. I dug out more dirt and finally got a signal around the 12" mark. I dug just a bit more out and thought I had found Good For Token. Later on, before I cleaned it up, I didn't realize what it was. It turned out to be a Boys Scouts Good Luck Token and was all of 12"+ Deep. I thought for sure it was going to be a piece of junk or possibly a Deep Half. I would have loved to pull a Silver Half from here but I will take the Boys Scouts Token. It's a neat piece and can't see how everyone passed it up. Guess some spots wasn't patterned very well is the only thing I can think of. I continued on....hoping to get 1 more Barber Quarter from here since 3 were pulled here already.....1 by me and 2 by Tim. I kept working the area and popped out a few more Wheats. I then come across a signal that read 28-30 on Digital. It showed about 8" Deep and was a strong signal. I dug down and at 8" Deep, I find myself looking at a Silver Washington Quarter.
How in the heck was that one missed???
Now I was getting a bit excited since the Token was about the size of a Half Dollar and the Silver Quarter was still here, then what else could I find next? I kept working and found another Wheatie. A few minutes later, I get a good 26 reading at about 8". I dug this and out pops a Good For 5c In Trade Token. I couldn't believe my luck!!!
I then was about to go over to a section that I have never tried along the river but a car pulled up and some people got out and were about to fish in the area where I wanted to try. I would have tried it but they had a frisbee and they also brought their dog with so I knew I would just be in the way.
So, I decided to go over where Tim had found his Barber Quarter, Barber Dime and V-Nickel in the same hole at. I also found a Barber Quarter here that day in the same general area. On the way over, I found an Old Brass Key. It's the type with the diagonal end for the old Railroad Locks. My first one of these. I also found a few more Wheats and an Indian Head here. That was dated 1889. I then was detecting about 8' away from where Tim had found the 3 Coin Pocket Spill mentioned above and got a short squeak. I backed up and started to sweep this area. The signal was barely audible and I tried from other directions. Nothing from the other directions but a Null so I knew there was Iron with whatever it was. I didn't know if it was just an Iron False or what but this Signal was getting me curious. It was in a very small area where I was able to get a 1-way signal so I decided to dig it and see what it could be. I dug down and around 10", a Quarter appears! WOW!!!!
(This is also my Surprise Find from last weekend Derrelld so you know you weren't the only one to find a Barber Quarter for a surprise.) I couldn't believe it! Another Silver Quarter!!!!! I picked it up and there she was............my Barber Quarter I was looking for! Couldn't believe it then that this was still there and still can't believe it that I got lucky enough to pull another from this Park. I continued hunting and was able to pull another Injun and a Wheatie or 2 before I decided to try another location. After I had cleaned up the Good Luck Token a few days later, I soon realized that I didn't find the Silver Quarter, the Good For Token and the Barber Quarter until after finding the Good Luck Token. Don't know if it actually gave me luck in finding these Coins but sure was kinda weird for me to find them shortly after finding the Good Luck Token. Spooky huh!!!
I then decided to run over to a Ball Diamond where I had found a Silver Quarter, Silver Rosie and a few Wheats at to round out the day. I figured I had already 6 Silver on the day so I wanted to see if I could get 4 more for 10 Silver on Saturday. I started hunting in the outfield and started to dig a lot of Clad Coins here since the Clad was all about 6" Deep here also so you didn't know if you were going to leave a goodie behind so you have to almost dig it all so that doesn't happen. I got out in the deep part of the outfield where 2nd base would be and popped out a Merc. Yes!!! I continued hunting with a few more Clad Coins and then another Merc surfaced! Cool I thought! 2 more to go! I then continued hunting and found a Wheatie just a little ways from where the Merc was found. I then come across a Nickel reading which showed about 6" Deep so I dug it and a 1937 Buffalo Nickel comes out. Cool! Didn't have an Old Nickel yet! I then continued hunting and was able to pull a bunch more Clad, another Wheatie and 2 more Merc's before I called it a day. I got my 10 Silver for the weekend so whatever was found on Sunday, it was a bonus.
Sunday, I decided to go to a Fairgrounds where Tim had found a Barber, Franklin and Kennedy Half at on previous hunts here while with me. I arrived shortly after lunch, which was a late start on Sunday. I started to detect and knew I had to dig every Coin Signal no matter what the Depth was since some of the Older Coins were close to the surface as well. I hunted here until 6:00pm. It was a hot day out with a light breeze so by the end of the hunt, I was feeling it. In this amount of time, I was able to pull around 20 Wheats, an Ornate Item which I thought was made from Aluminum but found out it is Sterling Silver
with an initial P on the face, 2 Junk Tokens, a few Misc Items and 4 Merc's and a Rosie. Not a bad short hunt I thought.
Silver Total was 15 for the weekend. They included 1 Barber Quarter dated 1904, 1 Washington Quarter dated 1943, 1 Barber Dime dated 1910, 10 Merc's dated 1917-s,192?,1940-s,1941-d,1941-s,1942,(2)1943,1943-d,1944-d and 2 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1946-d and 1964-d. I found 2 Injuns dated 1889 and 1904. 1 Nickel was found and that was the 1937 Buffalo Nickel. For Tokens, these included the 2 Junk No Cash Value Tokens, the "Boys Scouts" Manufactured By The Excelsior Shoe Co. Portsmouth, O. / Membership Emblem Of The Boys Scouts Club Good Luck Token and the Good For 5c In Trade / E.A. Lunt Trent, S.D. Token. Wheats included another 54 of them. They are dated (3)10,11,(2)12,13,(2)16,16-d,17,18-d,(5)19,23,25,(2)26,27,27-s,28-d,29-d,31,(2)34,35-d,(2)37,40-d,(3)41,41-d,42,(2)44-d,45,(2)45-d,46,(2)46-d,(2)47-d,(2)48-d,49-d,(2)52-d,55-d and 58-d. Misc. Items included the Roxie Ty Beanie Baby Stuffed Deer, a Brass Railroad Key for a Padlock, the Sterling Silver Item with the initial P on it, a Button with a Flower Design on it, part of a Cuff Link, an Aluminum Bracelet with Mary on one side and Marie on the other (must have been a mistake) and a Belt Buckle in the shape of a Harp. I also will mention that I got for Clad 116 Pennies, 4 Nickels, 49 Dimes and 28 Quarters. Well, that does it for this time. Hope you all get out this weekend and pull some good Coins from the ground. Can't wait to see what you all find! Good Luck and HH to you all and thanks for looking.
