Hello again everyone! Back with another round of finds from this past weekend's outing.
Most Silver was found on Saturday when I got 18 Silver for the day. The rest came on Sunday with only 3 and 1 on Monday. I didn't hunt Monday very long....maybe an hour or so due to scattered rain showers so I decided to check out a spot close by that seems to have some potential for a few Silver. I hope a lot of you were able to get out and do a little detecting during Memorial Day Weekend. Now for the story!
Friday, I talked with Tim again and he said he didn't have anything planned for Saturday with his wife so he wanted to hook up again and go do some diggin' in the dirt. Dan, a buddy of Tim's, was suppose to come along but he called Tim early Saturday Morning telling Tim he was going to be unable to make it due to his shoulder acting up and not getting much sleep Friday Night. Tim wasn't looking forward with just hunting with me since he believes for some reason that almost every time Tim and I detect together, I just kill him on Silver. Not really sure what he's talking about???

Saturday Morning, we headed out again really early and Tim this time made sure he had a digger with....he only decided to bring 3 Lesche's along this time!
I made sure if he did forget again that I had my New Lesche packed and ready for any emergency situation that may rise up.
The 1st Site was a Railroad Park that we almost drove right by. We have been through this town many, many times and never stopped to try it before. I asked Tim about it and he thought we were in a different town since another town has a Park like this one but is a bit larger. I quickly turned in and parked the car and we proceeded in getting the gear out. We hunted this for about a half hour and the only things we found were Clad and a Wheatie each. I was hoping for a quick Silver Fix but it didn't happen until a little later. So onto Site 2 we went.
Site 2 was another spot that we never even seen before! It was almost like THE TWILIGHT ZONE! We had been in this next town many times also and all of a sudden Tim asked me what some buildings to the west were? He than says, "A Fairgrounds". I looked and couldn't believe it!
That's exactly what it was!!! We immediately drove over to it and there it was with a Race Track and a bunch of Old Buildings. Heck!!! I still can't believe all this time that there was a Fairgrounds that we never even knew existed and it was practically right in our own backyard! We got out and hunted this for a few hours. It was around Noon or so when Tim told me that we should be moving onto our designated spot we had set out for. We landed quite a few goodies from here so we will be back soon enough to work it again. Tim found a 23-s and 22-d Wheatie along with a few other Wheats, 2 Rosie's, and I believe a Merc. I got a really worn Seated Dime that I have a pic separate from the rest of the Silver, 3 Merc's, 1 Rosie, a Buffalo Nickel, a crap load of Amusement Tokens used at the Fair, and a bunch of Wheats. Not a bad start and it was about to get better!
Site 3 was a Country Church that we came across. We stopped and I decided to give it a shot....at least for a little while. We started hunting and the first thing Tim finds is a Barber Dime. He was the only one to get a Barber Dime too, which ruined my Dime Slam I was hoping to get but I am more than happy with what I got. Tim also dug a Wheatie before we left. We only hunted this site for about a half hour or so since we really wanted to get back to our spot we had in mind. I was able to pull in that short time frame a few Clad Dimes, 1 Clad Quarter, 2 Wheats and 5 Silver Roosevelt Dimes. Tim couldn't believe how I was hitting the Silver again and he knew he had his work cut out for him once again. I was going to call him over when I dug the 3rd Silver Dime in a row but I figured he was finding things where he was also since I seen him digging a few times also. I'm sure I will be stopping back at this spot again to really work it hard to see what else is still there.
Site 4 was a Ball Diamond spot that we had been at the weekend before. Tim was lucky enough to land 2 Silver Rosie's, 2 Wheats and a Silver Quarter here last time while Dale and I almost didn't get anything at all but Clad. I found 1 Wheatie and a bunch of Clad but Tim was on a role. Tim kept telling me that if there was a Silver Quarter there, than there had to be a Half or 2 in the Ball Field which is why we headed back to this specific spot. We started hunting in the Outfield and it didn't take me long to nab a Merc right off the bat. I then started working it more and occasionally pop out a Wheatie. I then found a Buffalo Nickel and a Jefferson Nickel. Then 2 Merc's in the same hole! Tim was digging quite a bit...actually more than I was, so I thought he had hit a HOT SPOT since he was starting to pattern the area. I kept wandering around and got a good 28-30 on Digital. Dug down and out pops a Silver Quarter! YES!!! I then said to myself, "now to land a Half". Shortly there after, I got another 28 on Digital and thought possibly another Wheatie since I was digging a few of those. I dug down and in the pile of dirt standing on edge was a Walking Liberty Half Dollar. ALRIGHT!!!!!!! I kept working and got a few more Silver and more Wheats. I also got an Indian Head which was the only one found here. It could be the Diamond is older than we thought and if so, the Old Stuff is Super Deep. I asked Tim if he had found anything really old and he replied, "just Merc's". I then told him I had found an Indian Head. I then asked what else he had been finding and he told me he had dug a Rosie and 2 Merc's, a Walking Liberty Half, and a bunch of Wheats. He then asked what I had dug and I told him I had found 5 Merc's, 1 Rosie, 1 Silver Quarter, a Walking Liberty Half, an Indian Head, a Buffalo and Jefferson Nickel and a bunch of Wheats also. He stood there STUNNED and just couldn't believe just how much Silver I was finding. I then replied "I bet you had me beat with that Walker didn't you?" and he replied later on that he did in fact thought he had one up on me but I matched him on that one. It was starting to get late so we headed back towards home. We did stop by a School House though.
At the School House, I only dug a Wheatie. Tim dug 2 Wheats and a Silver Rosie. We then packed it in for another successful hunt and headed for home. Tim ended the day with 8 Silver. He also had a Buffalo Nickel and a bunch of Wheats. I ended the day with a total of 18 Silver, 2 Buffalo Nickels, a Jefferson Nickel, an Indian Head, a bunch of Amusement Tokens, and a bunch of Wheats. On the way back, Tim talked about how crazy I have been with the Silver this year and I agreed that it was crazy. Most of the time I struggle to find 10 Silver in a 2 day hunt but I have been blowing that out of the water and only in 1 day! I just hope it keeps up and if it does, it will be interesting to see how much Silver I find for the year.
Sunday, I decided to try a spot that seemed to have a bunch of finds still in it last fall. The spot looks like where an Old Fairgrounds might have been located due to some Old Rock Posts where you enter at. All there is now is a few Ball Diamonds and a Football Field. I started hunting and right away got a 1920 Wheatie. Off to a good start I thought! I then headed to the Football Field. I started hunting this and was finding a few Wheats. I then found a Foreign Coin which at first looked like it was going to be a Token. It turned out to be an 1899 5 Ore. I then kept working and on the outside of the track, I popped out a Standing Liberty Quarter, No Date of course! I kept working this spot for quite awhile and was only able to dig more Wheats. I then gave up and decided to go check out that Fairgrounds that Tim and I ran across just yesterday.
At he Fairgrounds, I worked this for about 2 hours. I got a couple more Amusement Tokens, a Merc, a few more Wheats and an Indian Head. It was getting late in the day so I decided to go stop by another Fairgrounds that I had pulled a lot of Silver from last year.
I arrived started hunting this other Fairgrounds. I knew it was going to be tough! I worked an area where I had pulled a ton of Silver and Wheats from. I got a really choppy, muffled signal and decided to dig it. I dug down and found a Wheatie. I filled the plug and swung over the area again. Just to the side of the plug I got another weird signal. Dug another plug and a Silver Roosevelt Dime. I was starting to get excited since I had pounded and pounded.....then pounded this spot even more and thought I had possibly gotten all the Coins but I just dug 2 more from here. I worked the area a little longer using the Joey Coil and found another Wheatie. I then got the Pro Coil on just to see if it would find anything. I walked across the road over next to a building and got a 28-30 about 6" Deep. I dug it and another Wheatie. Soon after this, I decided to pack it in for the day. I was hoping to land a bunch more Keepers but I am kinda glad I didn't. It would have been that much more work in getting my post up and running!
Monday, scattered rain showers were present and I had to run to Fargo so I decided I better pack the detector up just in case the weather broke for awhile. It did for a bit and I decided to go check out an area where some old trailer houses were. I got over there and started hunting it. Boy! There was Junk in the ground!!! I managed in about an hour and a half to pull 2 Toy Cars, a lot of Clad Coins, 2 Wheats, a Silver Quarter and a Bridge Company Token from the Toll Bridge in Fargo. Then it started to rain a bit so I gave up for the day. I'll be going back shortly today to see what else I can dig up. So here is the final results of the weekend.
I got a total of 22 Silver. They are 1 Walking Liberty Half Dollar dated 1946, 1 No Date Standing Liberty Quarter with an S Mint Mark, 2 Washington Quarters dated 1944,1956-d, 1 No Date Seated Dime, 8 Mercury Dimes dated 1917-s,1923,1936-d,1941-d,1942-d,1943-d,(2)1945 and 9 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1946-d,1948,1953-d,1957,1957-d,1958,1960-d,1962-d and 1964-d. I found 3 Nickels and they were 2 Buffalo Nickels dated 1928-d,1937-d and 1 Jefferson Nickel dated 1940-d. I also found 2 Indian Heads and they are dated 1896 and 1900. I found 16 Tokens also. They are in a pic below both front and back. The Foreign Coin is a 5 Ore dated 1899 and it turned out nicely after cleaning. I also dug a Play Coin dated 1954 that is pictured with the 5 Ore. For Wheats, I dug another 63 of those and they are dated 12-s,13,17-d,18,19,19-s,(2)20,20-s,24-d,25-d,26,26-d,28,28-d,30,(2)30-d,34,(2)34-d,35,(5)35-d,36,(4)37-d,39-s,(3)40-d,(3)41-d,41-s,(3)42,(2)42-d,44,44-d,45,45-d,46,47,(2)47-d,48-d,(3)49-d,51-d,(2)57-d and (3)58-d. I found for Misc Items a Tootsie Toy Tow Truck, a Lamborghini Toy Car, 2 different Skull Kids Rings, a Sterling Silver Ring with Turquoise, 2 Keys, a Sunday School Reward Pin, a Button, a Dice, something off of a Necklace and an Old Ladies Watch.
That does it for this round of finds and I will be back again with more finds found from this Saturday's Outing. Good Luck and HH to you all this weekend! Thanks for looking.
