Finally got out with The Omega 8000

[size=large]My other business slowed down enough to finally get out with the Omega..... Cosmetically this is a good looking detector, weight is good and for us older folks, we should be able to swing it for 6 - 8 hours with no problem... Very user friendly and the processor on this detector is FAST!! I took the 8000 to an area that had been pounded to death and in times past, there had been some problems with an electric fence. I usually hunt in AM and I turned the sensitivity wide open...The interference started from the fence but was able to put the frequency on 3 and it became stable enough so that I could hunt with no problem... I must say that this is a great detector for relic hunting.... the ID was never wrong, all the times I checked the targets, even when the target was at the depth where the detector was unsure, the ID would bounce from good to bad...it was alway iron...when it jumped in the good to good areas, it was always a non-ferrous target. I only got 3 good relics but only 2 of the 3 were deep. One was about 8" and the other was about 10". This was in hard packed, white clay...In AM the audio was good but not loud.. .I think that on the 10" target, I could have got it at 12" or so without headphones... (2 William's Cleaner Bullets and EARLY 1900 HOTEL-BOOK-GLADILLAC DETROIT KEY AND EMBLEM worth $50)
I was also pleasantly surprised by the speed of the detector in it's ability to recover from one target and see another. Using this detector in a trashy area while moving the coil slower than normal, should produce some good targets that others have masked by adjacent trash. This detector doesn't have the depth of the T-2 but it wasn't meant to but it is easier to use, less costly and certainly a competitive detector. With a T-2 sized DD coil, the detector still has more potential and no doubt could pick up an inch or so of depth... This detector is a good buy at $599 but if you can pick up a used one at $450-500, you are one lucky person...Teknetics has a winner...Richard
