Finally got permission into an UN-HUNTED old House!:detecting:

Yesterday was day one into an old house that sits vacant on a dead end street. I had been working very diligently to gain permission including signing a release waiver for liability, which I had no problem doing. Now this house sits on roughly 2 acres that includes a huge lot next door to it. I was very excited to get into what I believe to be an un hunted lot so I got to hunting. All my settings tweaked (thank you Bryce), my first signal was the religious medal. :surprised: I knew this could to be the holy grail of yards and its all mine! VERY FEW LOW TONES as I went along the yard around the big tree. I did hear so many high squeaks that I couldn't possibly get to them all:clapping: I settled into a great signal that repeated and pulled a small 5c trade token. Made of aluminum and HL Brown of Lenexa Kansas. I move on and get another trade token, octagonal 5c same name. Then on to a 1927 wheatie and I was happy to at least be able to date this place!:super: Next hit was what I believe to be a Chinese coin??? Soon my daylight was almost gone:rant: so I packed it up and headed home. I spent roughly an hour or so there yesterday and another hour and a half there today. First I went to the back near the patio and pulled two more trade tokens just like octagonal one pictured. :yikes: Next target was a Cracker Jack coin that was chopped in half and I found both halves! I still hadn't hit any silver coins and was wondering if maybe I had died and went to TOKEN HEAVEN???? So I decided to work the front yard a while and got this sweet little tone that cried DIG ME and nailed a 1923 Merc! This yard is incredible and I ha vent even began to scratch the surface of what it holds. Oh yeah and one more thing....This guy who owns this lot has another VERY SIMILAR property that is vacant just down the street that I can hit next when I'm done with this one! If anyone has a token book that shows any aluminum trade tokens from HL Brown in Lenexa Kansas, would you kindly let me know the approximate age of them? Also any input for the Chester A Arthur presidential Cracker Jack coin would be appreciated! I will post future hunt finds as they come in. CHEERS EVERYONE! Duane

Sweet!!!

hunt with some great finds. The religious medal is cool as are the tokens. To find BOTH halves of that one is a feat in itself:thumbup:
I'm sure you'll be posting some more goodies from this yard...AND the other yard that feller' says you can hunt:clapping:

Even though you didn't get a whole lot for Silver...forget about it! Tokens are worth more than a simple Merc and even a Silver Quarter so I would be happier than a kid in a Candy Store finding so many Tokens in 1 area. And just to think, your only getting started! I do hope you find more Silver at that spot but if you don't, bring on the Tokens! I would do a Search on Ebay for Kansas Tokens to see if there is any on there that you may have. Hope many more Keepers land in your pouch. Good Luck and HH.

Sounds exciting. I hope you do well. I hope to get out for a few hours but right now it's a little drizzly. They are actually predicting snow for this coming Monday & Tuesday in my area. Pretty soon it will be time to hit the woods.

Those are some really neat finds and for some reason I am real partial to trade tokens. I have found that they are a lot more collectible than coins in most cases. The history of them is really neat to read about if you can track them down. Sounds if you have a small mine to play in for awhile especially with another lot to got to after this one. Good luck and with the trade tokens that means there is older silver than the 1923 Merc.

Nice finds! According to the book "Kansas Trade Tokens" by Larry Oller & Kent Johnson, published in 2005, this merchant is unlisted. Only one token is listed from Lenexa and it's for a Lenexa Bakery.

Thanks for the info, any approximate age/date on the tokens. Ballpark is all I was wondering, I cant tell if they were produced in the 1900's or 1960's. All aluminum...thanks a million! Duane

My guess is that they are a lot closer to 1900 than 1960. You can try contacting the historical society in the area of Lenexa for any info or if you live close to that town, you can try the library and go through some early business directories. You can also try various genealogical sites on the Internet. A long shot would be to ask the owner of the property if anyone named Brown ever lived there. Good luck!

I got something like a while ago at walmart for nighttime beach hunting for about $16. They come in handy and work really well so you can see what you are doing even when it's dark out and it's hands free.

The tokens are always neat to find. Congratulations on the 1923 Mercury dime. On my hunts I find some cut pieces but I'm never lucky enough to find both halves. Nice finds and keep it up.
