Finally healed enough to get out detecting.....

Well after over 5 weeks, I am finally healed enough from my dog bite to get out and hunt a bit. Recovery was a bit of a problem since I still can't bend my knee, but it will not be long before they re-sod my favorite field, and I was desperate to see what I would find. I hit it yesterday for about 3 hours. Turned on the EXII with the platypus (it is quickly becoming a favorite) and hit a beat up wheatie. Not 3 minutes later, I got my first flat button. This field has produced some coins for me in the past, but it is loaded with buttons. In my few hours, I managed to recover a total of 9 buttons, two of which were militia/ military (firsts for me). I could not make exact match on one, since the backmark varies slightly from the Alberts book, but they appear to be an early Marine Corp button type MC 5A and a Rifleman RF 15B (differs from Alberts in that the BM field does not include the word Treble in the *.*.* field). I also found a whatzit that looks like a door lock release, but it is not.... Anyone with an idea as to what it is I would be interested. The field also produced what appeared to be at first glace a small musket ball or piece of buckshot, but upon cleaning it has a dimpled pattern. It looks like it may have been a hanging bead or ornamental button. All the flat buttons took a beating from all fertilizer, so if they had any design on their face, it unfortunately corroded away. Hopefully with some more soaking, more detail will present on the military buttons.... After such a long break, it was a nice way to start back.
Best Regards,
Keith

Hey Kieth, I'm not from the States so can't help you with any ID regarding your buttons...

But that's great that you can resume detecting again !
