My brother-in-law and I hit one of our abandoned farm sites today and I was finally able to sniff out silver with the SE -- and what a beauty she turned out to be! Looks like it fell right out of the mint's press onto the ground. So far for the year, I'm at a 13:1 wheat to silver ratio, but I have a sneaking suspicion that my silver count will start to climb now. I included pics of a few other keepers that I've found so far this year. The button is a mid to late-1940's, sterling silver plated Air Force button. The button, Canadian large cent and Asian cash coin all came from another abandoned home site I just gained permission to hunt last week.
The "sweet sound of silver" is definitely different than the tones I had in my head as being the ones to chase. After finding the Merc, the shriek of the high iron tones that I had been chasing became very obvious to my ears and suddenly didn't sound as appealing as they did up to that point. I want to thank all of the members on here that take the time to help new users get over the hump with these great machines. And thanks, Bryce, for making this area of Findmall a great and respectful place to learn and get to know people.
