Finally took the plunge...XP on the way :)

After 3 weeks of agonizing whether to get the XP or the CTX, I woke this morning and ordered the XP with the 9" coil. I started reading Andys book last night and liked what I saw. I sure hope I didn't bite off more than I can chew.

CONGRATULATIONS! From one New Mexican to another, watch every youtube video you can as many times as you can stand. I like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjuANf3J3yg. AND this web site http://www.metaldetectingworld.com/xp_deus_settings_explained.shtml

The XP Deus is a well though out easy to adjust detector. I don't think you will regret it....except maybe ordering the 9" coil!:rofl::rofl:

AND DITTO what squirrel says below....

You'll be fine. The machine's menus are easy to use. Best I've ever seen on any metal detector. Machine adjust easy on the fly. Tone break capability is good. Having adjustable transmitter power is very good. Disc settings 2nd to none. The compact size again 2nd to none.
You'll have her up and running before you know it. By the way, IMO it's the current gold standard detector for unmasking sold in the USA.

I may add the 11" coil later on and a set of fell wireless headphones, any suggestions on after market phones ?

I believe you can use your ws4 phones module and plug into some aftermarket full headphones. Try google search vance detecting maybe.

Man I would have gotten the CTX!!!! Just kidding! I love the Deus........remember, it is all about the tones!

OK, where in NM are you guys? I'm working for a few weeks in Clovis. We should get together for a hunt.

I am in California right now but have a place on the Rio Grande west of Las Cruces.
Lots of good places near the "Gehtto" for tecting though.....all over New Mexico for that matter!

I have 2 friends in Las Cruces that just swapped their CTX detectors for XP's. I'm wanting to hunt NMMI in Roswell if I can get the permissions.

Your going to love it.
One of the Best out there
for all hunting situations and
POTENT in the Iron! JMHO...

I do mostly relic huntin and plan on doing more nugget hunting while in New Mexico.
I would like to meet up with fellow NM detectorists to compare signals with!

It is a great machine but you really have to learn it and it does take a couple of months (at least for me) to start to click and make scense. Now that you have one coming and an update is also on the way you may want to check out the Nokta detector it has a small coil (if you want one) and is really a great detector to backup or go back with to an area you hunted and see if you missed anything. They will have a new unit coming out call the Racer if you are like a lot of us and have two detectors this maybe the setup you want....I love the deus and have spent too many hours learning it to not make it my #1 unit
