I have been begging for you gold hunters to send me some gold mojo since June 5. Frankly, I don't think any of you have been cooperating. (Kidding, of course.) Tonight I finally got lucky. I found this thin 14k man's wedding band (2.4 grams) less than 50 feet from where I found that 2 Reale coin. I reckon I could just say at my new favorite site! I had been out in the morning too and got only coins getting an early start on my Labor Day weekend goal. About an hour into this hunt I was only going through the motions. Hot and tired, I bet I only dug 25 coins the last hour and a half. There were more than that to dig for sure and if I had been fresh I would have gotten 50 or better. It was a fantastic hunt anyway. Three months is a long time for a guy who digs as many targets as me to go without a gold ring. BTW, did you notice where gold closed today? I may be skipping those silver coin sites for a while.

Chris

WTG, Hope you are just beginning

Awesome score Chris, Silver is a wonderful thing to find but gold is almost euphoric. It's easy to see how so many had frittered their lives away chasing after it.

4 hunts. 400 coins. One decent ring. (Got that one already. All luck.) Three silver coins. I have this promising site I've been saving but I think I'll keep saving it until the leaves start changing. It's up in the mountains. I guess I'll have to make due with my old stand-bys.

good one Chris  i"m glad ya broke your gold drought :clapping: i would have lent ya some of my mojo but i"m really using it at the moment i need 37g more to hit my goal of 200g.
i had a great day out last weekend & found almost as much coins as you get in a hunt 246 + a gold ring, unfortunately i found it with my water detector ( non Garrett ) so was unable to post here & shear with you guys .
good luck on reaching your goal for the weekend & hope to see some more yellow stuff from ya soon.

WTG Chis ! I am glad you finally got the gold. Looks like a foil hit to me.
The curse has been lifted !!!!! Congratulations.
Now get out there and get another one ! HH Gene

Congratulations on the yellow stuff! 14k is nice.
With the hardest find outta the way the rest of the weekend should be a slow swingin' relaxing jaunt.
I would be curious to see the pile of junk you have dug between June and now next to the ring.

163 grams of gold? Yikes! I'm up only to 15 for the year. I'll be extremely satisfied to get one more gold item this year.

246 coins is way more than I usually find. I might have 3 hunts in my lifetime where I've found that many.

Chris

It hit dead on nickel. Petty good signal and maybe 4 inches deep. A guy stopped and chatted and was wearing a big 22k ring. We air tested it and it it one notch below zinc cent. I never find gold on the foil notch with my 2500 and I dig tons of foil. Maybe some day.

Chris

That's surprising Chris. I just had to ask. Most of my thin ladies rings hit
in the foil area. Probably about 85-90% of them. Really clean up in the
foil area. Most 2 to 3" deep if that. Maybe it's the areas I hunt. I know that
gold rings can hit almost anywhere although I rarely dig one that hits on a
nickel. Just as soon as they come out with a detector that has a gold ring
icon that guarantees it's a gold ring I will be the first one in line. A lot of
people would be in that line I suspect. I'll just keep digging in the meantime.
Thanks for the answer Chris. Good hunting to you ! Gene

Which detector are you using? I use a GTI 2500. I did air tests with about 35 gold rings a few years ago (the post must still be in the archives) 85% of the rings I tested hit on other nickel notches (GTI 2500) or 3.5-4.5. The big ones and higher carat rings hit higher anywhere from there all the way up to zinc cent. My best ring hit on notch 5.5 and was 14k about 15 grams if I remember. I kept that ring because believe it or not it had my initials engraved on it. There's a post for that too some time last year and it was featured on the Garrett Web site. Might still be there.

Was thinking that question would be coming up Chris. I use many different detectors
depending on where I am going. Every detector has a special purpose, at least in
my mind. I have a CXIII which is absolutely the fastest and deadliest pinpointing
machine I have ever used. No X'ing the target. Just press pinpoint and go for it.
I figure faster pinpoint equals more finds per hour. Good see through ability on
iron and aluminum trash too. Take the old Groundhog out for a spin every now
and then too. Kind of old fashioned but will get the job done for a jewelry hunter
in sports fields. Real sensitive to gold jewelry. I use a CZ7A when I think it might
be going to rain as it's splashproof. The best gold jewelry hunter though, for me
anyhow, is the Golden Sabre II. Again, old fashioned but I like it because I like
what it can do for me. I found gold jewelry with it every 3-6 hours without fail on
sports fields for 4 seasons running. Been trying other detectors for the past
4 years I believe but nothing comes close to that gold rate. I found a way to set
the notch control just right that any aluminum makes a tell tale sound. This is
with the notch off and for me was quite a nice discovery. Aluminum and foil are
my most troublesome trash targets. Last year used a DFX.
Now that was an experience. Tried to sell it after 50 hours but didn't. Discovered
a little trick with it and it paid for itself by 100 hours. Bought it because of the
trigger pinpoint and because I just had to try one. I live near Tampa Florida and
I hunt during October to April generally when it's cooler. I really like the trigger
pinpoint because in cold weather my thumb would dry out and the skin would
split. Some touchpads would hurt so bad I would try to hunt without going into
pinpoint. I also have a CZ5, Surf PI Pro and CZ20. That should be enough for
anybody. Air tested a lot of my gold rings I have dug over about 2 years or so
and the majority of them are in the foil range. That's pretty neat to get a ring with
your initials on it Chris. I sure hope that Garrett comes out with a detector with
trigger pinpoint. Think I could use just one more. Sorry this is so long. You
got me going on this one. Good hunting to you Chris ! Gene

3.5 to 4.5 is where the majority of the gold rings I have dug hit on the CXIII
as well Chris. I believe that the 4.5 is marked as being round pull tabs on
the meter. With bell tone and bi-level audio on the tabs sound different from
the gold rings that hit at 4.5 on my CXIII the way I have the tone set.
It weighs more than some but has great balance. I like it. That's why I still
have it. HH Gene
