Hit the beach last night about 2300 for a 0015 LT. We had a mini Nor'easter yesterday. Surf was about 6'. It's a south facing beach. We had ENE winds most of the day 15mph gusting to about 25mph. HT was about 1800 and the storm was pushing the tide up about 1' above normal. It was still raining. I was hoping for a cut. I was not disappointed. There was a cut alright. Where I hopped off, it was about 1.5'. Well that was the lowest spot on the cut. Some areas where 4' high, right up to my chest. Pulled out the GQA2, and got started. 5 targets right away at the bottom of the cut. 1 dime and 4 hairpins in a 5' area. It was time for the Excal. Worked the beach for a bit w/ the excal. Got a coin or two. Headed to a spot that has produced coins in the past. Got a couple more. Hit a nice low tone, two scoops later, and as I am shaking out the sand I spot GOLD!!! A nice thin 10kt band w/ 3 small ice chips. No better way to start... Got 4 more rings 3 of which were .925 and some other junk. Now I am working back along a high spot on the cut. I get another low tone that catches my attention. I look and see a 14kt horn laying at the base of the cut. The tides was still washing up to the cut at this spot. Guess it was good timing. Netted several more shell casing and finally the round that goes w/ them. My new mascot, the baby jaguar was found right near the horn. I may be fighting my 3 year old daughter for ownership of that one. The surf was far too rough for entry, although I am sure it held many more goodies. The cut was so deep that in most areas there was an 8-10" layer of coarse gravel and stone about 2.5' below the sand, and this was cut thru exposing 6 more inches of sand below. Pretty much anything that was sitting on this layer was now in the pounding surf..... Anyway, I had a great time and got some nice finds. Gonna use my $1.43 in clad to buy a waterproof digital camera.
