finding the ground reading

HI, I'm new and I keep reading about the "groung reading", I just purchased my mxt and was wondering how you get these initial readings, and who that reading translates into my setup for any particular hunt. Thanks
Ivan

Welcome to a great Forum Ivan,
The ground "mineralization" can be read in the prospecting mode. I believe it is the top right numbers.
My ground usually reads in the mid 50's which is considered mild soil. The stock 950 coil works great for my conditions. Others have posted here that readings from the high 60's indicate "highly mineralized soil" which may make the stock coil a little noisey.
In highly mineralized soil most go to the DD coils that are offered by Whites as the 6X9 and 4X6. These DD coils are also preferred in trashy areas since the search pattern is similar to a knife blade which reaches from the front to the back of the coil. The stock 950 coil puts out a cone shape pattern that will pick up multiple signals at the same time in trashy areas which is a type of "falsing".
Hopes this helps and HH,
Johnny B
