Hello All. Got some good and bad news. The last time I went detecting was Sunday the 25th Feb. and had a few finds still unstable on my fee after the broken foot on the day before Christmas. I had a birthday on Friday 2ndof march and about midday Saturday the next day my wife found me in the shower with a heart attack so I ended up in hospital, what a few days. After some tests I was sent home late Wednesday to go through a whole series of scans and test as an out patient. I am on a hand full of pills till the paper work is organised with my doctor. only small amounts of detecting while my wife looks on. I will go through my finds as quickly as possible. In the coins photo I have 5 pennies- 1 silver shilling with a hole in the centre.1

Hey Stan,

Was your heart attack caused by an arterial blockage due to plaque build-up? That is a pretty common cause from what I have seen.

I was rollerblading at the Virginia Beach boardwalk one beautiful Thursday evening in September 2004 and I had a heart attack as well. In the best shape of my life, with a cholesterol of 110...go figure! So I got an angioplasty and a stent and was back at work on Tuesday and rollerblading and jogging again shortly after that. And of course on a bunch of pills for life. So a year later, in November 2005, I was running 5 miles a night, in great shape, everything great. Went in for a routine treadmill test, had another artery at 99% blocked...ready to have another heart attack any minute and would have never known it. Got another angioplasty and another stent, rock on. Doctors said I inherited my grandfather's crappy arteries...nothing for me to do that I wasn't already doing, so keep doing what you're doing. I'm 48, by the way.

So now after more than another year, I'm running 6 miles a night, eating right, taking the meds, and the most recent tests say everything is great and my cardiologist says he doesn't need to see me again until August.

My point to you is this: Hang in there, do what they tell you to do, and you'll be back in business sooner than you think. This isn't a show stopper! :)

Glad you're OK!

Mike, I knew you had the one problem where you came home, felt crappy and they called an ambulance or something. That must have been the first one. I'm really amazed that they caught the other clogged artery from the treadmill. That's great that they did. I had a treadmill test a year or so ago, and they said I was OK, but I woke up one morning about 6 months ago, with a seemingly real pain in my chest, went to the ER, and after numerous tests, they said they didn't know what it was. Geeezzzz. That's pretty scary to me, because it was a real solid continuing pain in the middle of my chest, with pain under my left armpit, sweating, and some nausea. I'm glad at any rate that they found your problem and did the stint thing and you seem to be good to go. I guess you just have to keep on top of it and keep a close eye on your condition, to fix any problems in that area, but otherwise you can do a bunch of exercises and be OK. Thanks for posting that, even though this is a metal detecting forum , let's face it, a number of us "metal detectorists" still have to deal with this problem or something similar. I appreciate it. Marc

Yeah, that was in September 2004 that I had the attack. In November 2005 I had the treadmill test, took it all the way to the last level...20 minutes...full-on run, got up over 170 beat per minutes sustained...felt great. The EKG however showed a "slight irregularity"...not enough blood to one part of the heart at peak exercise. So the doctor wanted to go in and look. When he got there he found a previously 60% blocked artery had now gone to 99% so he put in stent #2. I was feeling fine...no idea. Just goes to show you that we can think we're in fine shape and turn around and drop dead the next minute. So get out there and get you some! :)

(I MEANT gold, but apply it as you see fit)

Hello Stan, goodness! Last thing I needed to hear! I hope you're okay. Nothing more frightening than the unexpected. My hubby had a heart attack a few years back and didn't even know it! It was only through a check up at the doctors, due to his on-going high blood pressure and headaches that made me suspect something wasn't right. Well, low and behold, he's on tablets too now, to keep his pressure down. It really scared me though, and I watch him like a hawk. So long as he takes his medicine each day, he's doing okay, but should he miss one tablet, he fells like hell. So don't miss your pills Stan!
Take care, and and I love your finds too. Just got back from my very first detecting competition, and it was great.

Thanks Mike. Boy, that is scary to be "thinking your ok", and find out your in real jeopardy, but thank goodness they caught it and put the other stint in. Your right, as soon as I can afford insurance, I need to do the same if I make it til then. Hope I do, and I'll try and get some kind of checkup in the mean time. Thanks, again. Beachguy777.

Yea Mike, I read you on the gold. Thanks again for the encouragment, and thanks for sharing your heart issues. You give me a lot of confidence for one, and also a good warning to get checked out enought to catch this kind of stuff, and hopefully get it fixed like you did. Thanks again there Killer!!!:twodetecting::yo::|Right on baby, sock it to em and all that good stuff! Beachguy777.
