Finds for 08/19/2007 Minelab SE

Hello guys,

This was a good day for me, with the two silver coins, lock and makeup case. I went out this morning around 0800 hrs with a friend of mine, and we hunted until about 1200 hrs. I pulled the first silver dime out in about the first ten minutes of the hunt, which gave me the confidence that it was going to be a good day. I was really surprised to open the little case and find out that it was a makeup case. I'm not sure what the date of the makeup case would be as of yet. The lock is apparently somewhat of a wanted item that can sell around $50 without the lock working properly. I read upon the lock, which I believe was made around 1910 to 1920. There are several fakes and reproductions out there but this one is the real deal. I appreciate you taking the time to look at my finds. This is a local hunt here in Fort Worth, TX. Keep-em swinging.

I found one a long while ago. That particular one was a popular toy back then, someone here knew the name but I forgot what it was.

Looks just like the gyroscope I used to play with when I was a kid back in the '50's!
You spun the shaft with a wrapped string pulled quickly and as the gyroscope spun you could marvel at how your toy always tried to stay upright and would fight you when you tried to turn it (precession). Good find.:super:

The wheel is from a scientific toy known as a Chandler Gyroscope. It sat inside of a cage and you wound it with a string. When you pulled the string the wheel spun and the gyroscope would stand on the tip of a pencil, or your finger, or whatever. Here's a picture of one in action.

Looks like you are digging some neat stuff. The lock is very nice. Your makeup case is in great shape. I found one as well and it's sterling silver...but also bent pretty bad. If you get time check out my post when you see it. I'm not sure if I will get it on today or tues or Wed. Depends on time constraints.
