Took a road trip to WV and done a little diggin' with a couple of buddies. I ended up with 4 Gardner's, 3 .69 cals., 1 4-ring Sharps, 7 3-ringers, a buckle, a cuff sized flat button with shank, a suspender thingie ofa majigger and a couple of hollow lead whatsits. Any ideas on what they might be? Thanks for lookin' and HH!! :)

Nice group of relics Scott. Looks like a good hunt. Can't help on the hollow lead pieces, haven't seen anything like them. Frank

Scott: Looks like a lot of your finds have ricocheted. Could this be a practice site? Or maybe against a hillside. Just wondering...... Dave

The hollow lead items look like net sinkers that we find in the fords of rivers and streams around here.

Scott: knew "steepness" involved somewhere for low angle impacts. Thank for the reply. Guess they must have been shooting against some pretty hard ground or at low angles. Dave

You know me. Could you do me a favor and mike the ramrod impression on the .69 in the middle of the first picture? Might be able to identify weapon from it. Thanks a bunch for helping out a geek. Not necessary to photograph just send a few measurements. Dave

The .69 was pretty distorted so I don't know how well these measurements will help. The depth of the impression is approx. .312 and the diameter mics from .496 to .530.

way to go, scott, nice finds. west va. is often overlooked by us relic hunters, even though some semi - major actions took place there. i think the hollow lead pieces might be camp made fishing weights that never saw water [it was always a good idea to have at least a couple of 'em in your pockets!] - especially being that wv has some great trout streams. trust me: there's a lot of relics waiting to be dug in wv.

Sorry Scott I took so long to reply. I can't make a match I'm satisfied with. If you find any more at that location with good ram impressions and rifling impressions might be able to make a good ID, Thanks for the extra effort. Dave
