I have been up in Kansas working for the last 7 weeks, and had the opportunity to meet up with Stephen Scott, also known as rebelLT on the forums here.
We both took our Exlorers out there in an open field, and hunted about 2-1/2 hours or so, I with my 14 inch coil, and Steve with his 12 inch. We worked hard, and didn't find much, but I did manage to find a couple of pieces of old lead.
Steve had gone back to his truck, and was returning, when I heard that sweet high pitch that in the context of this field, meant aliminum, lead, or just possibly a goodie.....
I dug down with my Lesche digger, and turned over the soil to the side of a 5 inch hole. I swept over the hole, and nothing.
I swept over the pile, and again, that high pitch we all love so well.....
So, here it is, my 1876 Seated Liberty Quarter. I let out a big ol' Texas Whoop! and called Steve over to see my goodie! I wish we had both found more silver, but from the looks of the post Steve shared, he did manage to find some more later that day....
The house below is another site I hunted while in Kansas, and as you can see, it turned up some nice silver, along with a 1903 ring (high school?) and one chinese coin. The coins in the pic are a 1926 Standing Liberty, a 1914 Barber, two 41 mercs, and an 1884 V nickel.
My favorit however has to be the seated liberty Quarter! It was scratched (I am blaming the farmer who had plowed), but a neat find.
THANKS to rebelLT for the great hunt! He is exemplary of the fine members of our hobby. Thanks Steve!
