Hello again everyone. Thought I would post these finds I got the last 2 times out. It's been awhile since I've swung the detector (over a week) and I am starting to get anxious to get detecting again if the weather straightens out. Last weekend was a no go due to scattered rain and hope this weekend will have a better forecast. Anyways....let's get to the short story and the finds. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all.
Well....it was 2 Saturdays ago that Tim, Dale and I hunted together. We hit a few different sites.....all only giving up a few keepers here and there. Sites consisted of Town Halls, Ball Field and where a School once sat in a small town.
The first Town Hall gave up a pocket spill of Wheats to me.....5 or 6 of them with 1 being a 43-d Steel Wheatie. I also got a Silver Rosie that was laying on top of the gravel that at first glance thought it was a Clad Dime but then seen the date was 1960. It was very dark colored almost to the extent of looking just like a Clad Dime would if it was buried for a few years. Don't know how or why it was laying on the surface but I'll take whatever Silver I can no matter what it is. I also popped out a Merc here. Dale found a few Wheats and I believe Tim found a Silver Dime and a few Wheats as well. I tried convincing Dale to try the Joey Coil due to the amount of Iron and Junk readings but he didn't listen. It was like night and day between the Joey and the Pro Coil with the Joey picking up more targets and better signals due to the amount of Junk in the ground. Sometime I might just have to go back and give it another try at that Town Hall.
We then moved onto another Town Hall and hunted that for about 2 hours. I found a 19 Wheatie sitting on edge in a crack between the dry dirt and also got a Silver Rosie as well. Dale got a Wheatie or so and Tim got a Wheatie and I believe a Silver Dime as well. It was starting to be a tough hunt and it was all through the day.
We then decided to go see what a small town had to offer since no-one remembered in the group ever visiting this town. We drove around and found where the School once sat....which was a very large area and thought we would do better than we did but didn't. We got out and started hunting. Tim was on one side of the sidewalk and I was on the other. About half-way, Tim decided to go try the yard a bit. Shortly after he left I decided to walk across the sidewalk and try the yard myself but was surprised to get a good hit along the side of sidewalk that Tim had first started hunting. I dug a plug and it turned out to be a Merc that was about 8" Deep. I then continued hunting and got down towards the end of the sidewalk and popped out a Wheatie dated 1918. I then stopped Tim and told him that if he would have kept going along the sidewalk, he would have gotten the Merc instead of me. I also told him I got a Wheatie as well. We started hunting again and only hunted for a short time after this. Dale found I believe 1 Wheatie and that was it. Tim left and then came back and then Dale got into the car also. As I worked towards the car, I got over by the sidewalk again and crossed over it. About 3' from the sidewalk I got a Deep 26 on Digital. Thinking Older Wheatie again, I dug a plug and was surprised when a Silver Washington Quarter popped out of the hole. I figure it was about 10" Deep or so and may have been at a weird angle for the detector to get the ID it did. I walked up to the car and kept saying "Silver.....Silver......Silver!". Dale turned around and seen the Quarter in the window and Tim also was surprised. We tried once again but only for about 20 minutes or so over where the playground equipment was located. I started finding Deep Clad around this area so you knew it was filled. I did manage to pop out a 1919 Wheatie though on the way back to the car and Dale found a Wheatie as well.
We also tried a Ball Field for a short time with Dale finding the only keeper.....a Silver Rosie.
The last site turned out to be the best one of the day....at least for Dale and Tim. I didn't get a thing from here but Dale scuzzed off and popped out a Walker and 2 Barber Dimes. He also got a Wheat or 2. Tim ended up finding a few Wheats and a few Silver Dimes also and a Buffalo Nickel. Tim found a 1935 Silver Quarter as well but don't remember exactly which site he found it at. All in all it was good to get out and make a few more finds that Saturday. Totals for me were 7 Silver, Canadian Cent, 1 Indian Head, and only 13 Wheats along with a few Misc.
Sunday, I decided to go try some boulevards where a block and a half of street repair/sewer repair was going on. I hunted this for about 2 hours or so and didn't find as much Silver as I thought I should have. I only found 1 lonely Silver Rosie, 2 Older Jefferson Nickels (1 laying next to a tree) and 22 Wheats. One area had about 8 of them in about a 1' area with the other Jefferson Nickel. Other than that, it was another meager hunt as far as Silver goes but at least the Wheats were a bit plentiful.
One quick note about these boulevards I hunted. Tim decided to go try them out 2 days ago and seen my plugs there. I don't think he got anything for Old Coins but he did manage to scuz off and pop out a really Old 14K Gold Ring with some initials in it. Tim said he found a Gold Ring that read the same way this one did and that was the only reason he dug it. Dale figured that the Ring would be worth just under $300 in Gold Scrap. Tim then went out the next day and found a Silver Ring but not sure where he found that one. Now to the totals.
Silver was 8 pieces this time. They were 1 Silver Washington Quarter dated 1952-d, 3 Merc's dated 1919,1935-d,1937, and 4 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1960-d,1962-d and (2)1963-d. For Nickels, I only found 2 and one was a recent drop. They were 2 Jefferson Nickels dated 1940-s and 1956. I also dug 1 Canadian Penny dated 1945. Only 1 Indian Head was found and it was dated 1907. For Wheats...I dug 35 of them. They are dated 18,(2)19,19-s,26,27-d,(2)36,38,39,42-d,43-d(Steel),(5)44-d,44-s,(3)46-d,48,(2)50-d,(2)53-d,(5)56-d,(2)57-d and (2)58-d. Misc. finds included some Plastic Vampire Teeth, an Old Junk Ring, a Play 50
