Finds in the iron today

Today I was in a bean field in an area with a lot of iron bits and pieces. I ran my program and upped the reactivity to 3. This was the only change I made. Even though I had upped the reactivity the targets still buzzed the iron sound as you wiggled back for pinpoint. So here's the lesson. In normal ground without loads of iron if you wiggle back off a target and get the buzz sound you have a crap target most of the time but today there was sooo much iron that there were no clean targets so you dig. On a cleaner field I would most likely dig after hearing the buzz too but I would be factoring in the location and size of the target. Spend more time trying to find a reason to dig instead of not.

The colonial buttons were out in force with a Tombac a couple of broken shoe buckles broken Crotal bell two types of thimbles. Lots of fun but no coppers.

You did some good work in the iron patch Todd. The Deus is a tombac killin' machine in the iron in 12 or 18 kHz.

For the buttons, were you able to wiggle back and forth just a very small amount in the midst of the iron to be able to eek out the buttons?

Not really Tony. The hole area was buzzing iron tones. You just had to dig and believe. When you hit a spot where an old house burned or fell over and rotted away. You have to think about the age of the site your on. Then the level of garbage. The size of the target is a big deal. "Is what you're listening to a coin sized target"? Then do the best that you can.
Much tougher to figure out if your in a place with modern trash around. In the woods or a field I'm almost always going to dig. Try to find a reason to dig.

Lastly when Iron is pretending to be a good target by giving a good tone it often gives itself away by the punchyness or sharpness of the positive tone.

I suggest that you talk to yourself when you are over a suspect target. Say to yourself this is crap and I know it is but I'm going to dig it and see. This will help you remember the tones and how it was acting. It will also drive home the lesson your teaching to yourself. HHunting

I absolutely say that to myself at least few times each hunt. Sometimes more than a few times.
