Finds Visualized

For quite some time I've been posting about a late 1800's house that we've had an open invitation to detect at. Tonight I decided to take a screen capture of the Google Earth map of the property and overlay our more significant finds on top of the map. Each find was approximately under the center of each block of text. We probably have a combined total of 60-80 coins and most of the older coins were found on the same side of the house. I think it's interesting to see the open areas where no significant coins were found. We've found a lot of wheats on a different side of the house than the 1800 stuff. There have also been a decent amount of late 60's and early 70's clad in another area. There have been very few modern coins.

The history of the house was that it was that it was built by a guy that owned a brick yard near the house. That explains why the house is two bricks thick. I doubt that was common back then. That guy lived there from the late 1800's for an unknown period of time and then two other families lived there for what we think were both short periods of time. After those two families moved out a fourth and final family moved in back in the mid to late 60's and moved out about a year ago.

It's been a fun place to hunt and we probably go there for an hour or so a couple of nights a week but it's been slim pickens the last week or so. Ironically we haven't found any mercs but have silver on both sides of the merc era.

I thought it was interesting to note our finds on the map. It almost seems like different eras used different parts of the yard. The back of the house is where it is marked "Various Wheats"

Interesting.
I'd bet that there were trees where the older finds were years ago. People outdoors tend to gravitate to shade.

There very well could have been trees there although there are no signs of them at this time. Some old pictures that we found taken from about a half a mile away make it look like the area under where I have marked the 1874 Indian could have been the location of the original garage which may explain why there have been no notable coins found in that area. Also there were steps leading off of the side of the front porch where the 1937D quarter was found. We may be finding coins along the path between the house and the old garage.

This is a fun place to detect and the owner that lives nearby just likes to see what we find and sincerely appears to have no attachment to any of it. The house will be torn down in the next couple of weeks. I've asked him if I can go in and kick up all of the steps leading to the attic just before they tear it down to see if anything was hidden under them. A few weeks ago while removing the radiators he found an indian head under one of them. The back side of the coin cleaned up pretty well but the front was so badly corroded that we couldn't get a date off of it. We've already checked above the fireplaces, in the fireplaces and some of the basement.
