First 14K ring

Grabbed my first 14K ring , F75 read a solid 56 at about 7 inches .
This is a old site were most coins are late 1800s thru early 1900s.
The inscription was unique,[ Mother to Elton] a story there some were.

How big was the ring? All of the gold rings I've found with the F75 have been from 19 to 41, except one HUGE class ring that was 51.

Hum... maybe I'd better starting digging those mid 50s.

n/t

Congratulations on the first ring
F75 sure is hot :detecting:

Sorry no camera , i scaned it but that was not much better than nothing.
psyvad it is small in size ,will not slide down my pinky finger, but its thick and wide
Still air test at 56 and my ring hits at a 53ish. I hoped it was a indian head before i dug it.
Thanks all .

Congrats on the gold! 50's for an ID is a little higher than the gold rings I've tested; must have a very good weight to it. Still haven't nabbed a gold ring with the F75 ... it'll come one of these days!
Cheers,
tvr

Congrats on the ring

I agree, 50's is high for a 14K ring, unless it's big. Is it marked 14K or is it perhaps a higher karat content? I picked up a 7g mens signet ring that rang in the 50's (I was also thinking it might be an Indian head) and it was a 24K men's signet ring :wiggle:

hh,
Brian

Its not big ,but thick with good weight .The ring i found and my ring both hit in the 50s.
A nickle at 30 a barber dime 72 merc 76
Both are marked 14K

Congrats on the 14K, and what a wonderful inscription, really makes you wonder about the history!

I'll admit when tired I've ignored those solid 1-3" (which read 3-5" on my cocky LTD:rofl:)59-61 zincs. Any F-75 users get rings from those solid zinc penny signals? I've dug a lot to "prove" myself right and haven't dug a gold ring in that range yet.

2 of my 3 10k gold rings have been dug in the lower-mid zinc range, and the white gold one hit shallow 3" at a solid upper nickel range of 32-33.

Nice ring find. One big 10k class ring I recently dug with my LTD read 51-53 and was 4." The other one was a 10k also, but had a broken band and was all of 7" deep and that one bounced into the low 70's. I found several 10k and 14k with my regular F 75 and some were a 30 nickel lock on and others ran all the up into the 50's. Depth, size, ect. all play a roll in readings. HH jim tn

I would guess that aside from size and karat content that the other alloys used would also account for the readings being all over the map (if they used copper for instance vs nickel the copper would skew the TID up and the nickel down).

I picked up a very large and solid ring. 9 carat and it read 64 on the F2. I think the numbers are similar on both machines.
