First big silver with the Omega

Got a nice sounding low 90's hit that pinpointed at 5". Dug a 53 Franklin half in very good condition that was nearly twice as deep as it read!

Moral of the story, the pinpint depth is keyed to penny/dime sized targets, big silver will be deeper!

Good job on the Franklin, But does it ever False on any size Iron or nails? What is the max depth you have got on a dine sized target? what is the ground balance numbers were you live? HH

Even at high settings iron falsing is minimal IMO and easily recognized in most cases when it does. Deep rusted away bottlecaps and very deep small nails sound good and are dug but that is true with every detector I have used. Deepest dime so far was just shy of 9" and my GB numbers typically run in the mid 60's to mid 70's with no Fe bars showing when using the DD coil.

yes!,,i agree!..those items you mentioned WILL sound good with ANY detector,regardless of brand!
getting 9 inches on a dime definately compares very favorably with f-75 and l.td depth acquisition

I sure wish I had decent ground in the '60s'! With the stock coil in all of my local parks and schools, so far, the lowest has been '78' and the highest was '81,' but then I knew I live in "ugly ground land."

There's a lot of differences between a mid-60's condition and the performance challenges in the high-70s than many might realize.

Using the Omega, I'm in at 80/82 on the GB phase, but nothing on the Fe reading.

I can't say I have noticed any poor performance, coins in the 8" + range, and I'm using the stock concentric coil.

I used to think a phase reading in the 80's was bad when I was using my XLT, but I found a lot of targets at depth with it. When the T-2 first came out I noticed it had a Fe scale reading on it, and it was most always at "0". Take a look at your Fe reading, see what your getting, I would be interesting to learn it.

In one of my two favorite Portland (Oregon) city parks it is not uncommon to get Ground Phase readings from '83' to '86' with a White's MXT, and the Tek Omega provides nearly idential GP read-outs. Makes sense since David Johnson was involved with both. What makes this 280+ acre park a challenge is that it is an extinct (I hope it stays that way) volcano within the city limits and I can walk a straight line in some places that will take me from '83'-'85' ground to '52'-'56' ground in a matter of a few steps. Perhaps 10 feet!

Some ares have surface rock, or very shallow at maybe 1"-2" below the surface, and other areas you can dig a few feet in decent (easy-to-dig, I mean) dirt. Since I generally prefer to hunt by audio response primarily with an occasional glance at the display, I don't pay a lot of attention to all the information and haven't been alert to the Fe[sub]3[/sub]O[sub]4[/sub] readings. We should have some weather breaks today and I'll give it a look.

Remember, that reading only conveys information when it's working (search coil in motion) and not when you stop the sweep.

Monte, using the stock coil the numbers run higher hereas well. Typically in the 80-81 range however, I only occassionally see an Fe bar light up.

at two other sites today. One a park and one a school. A lot of "noise" at them, as usual, and Sensitivity setting could only go as high as about 77-83 in some of the area away from the school, and around 52-58 up close. The Ground Phase in the wood-chips as most often in the low-to-mid 60's but did get up into the low 70's when the "chip layer" was pretty thin. On the grassy lawns or bare dirt areas, in was 1 or 2 Fe bars and a GP of 77 to 82.

I have found quite a few oldies at that volcanic park which I first hunted about 1972. Most of my better finds have been made with a modified Classic III or IDX Pro or XL Pro or XLT or MXT in years past, 98% of them when using the 6
