First coin FTY is a Shiny One

With the nasty weather we've been having here in Pa. I didn't think I'd get out at all this month. With a bit of a warm up today I took the Manticore to an area of one of the old parks that have been pounded over and over again by me and a couple of others. In the winter of 22, with the 800 I dug around a dozen silvers from this area along with a few Ihps, Buffs and a couple Vs. Later that year I went back , using a different mode and hit another 30 coins, A Merc, an Ihp a Buff and some deep clad. In 23 I hit it with the 900 and got a few stragglers. Last year I took the Legend w/ LG24. After 4 hours of digging junk I finally hit a Jeff. nickle in the last 15 minutes to keep from taking a skunk.
So today, realizing a skunk was a possibility I headed back to see if the raw power of the Manticore could find deeper coins other machines had missed. Yes and no. First coin, the Merc was just a quick high tone then nothing. Turned on it, still nothing. I cranked up the sensitivity to 31, was running at 24 W/ 9 in. coil and sped up my swing a bit and it was just enough to get a nice repeatable in one direction with numbers jumping from the 40s to the 90s. About 7 in. down was the Merc and it had an iron stain on it from a bolt. Close by I dug a smashed can and a can top. To say this was a fine job of unmasking is an understatement. And this was in open area, anyone approaching from the buried can side would never have heard the short sweet chirp that got my attention. Later I dug a memorial and a wheat. Only dug 4 coins on the day. I was surprised to find that many. Now the last coin was an eyeopener. The path coming out of the woods into the field is about 10 feet long and maybe 4 feet wide. With thickets and saplings on either side. In 22 on the field side I hit a coin spill w/ 5 silvers and couple other coins. Also dug a couple wheats on the path. Later that year I hit a wheat and transit token spill on that path. I can't remember how many times I've been over that path but I can tell you there were no signals left, Until today, same thing as the Merc, just a short high chirp then nothing. Raised the sensitivity to 32 and got a repeatable 91-93 I said noway. Around eight inches down out came another wheat. That impressed me. A little Manticore magic. I would have never believed there was another coin on that path. In all I was there for about 5 hours, and yes I dug alot of junk, probably at least 30 can tops, they sound good and plot nice on the trace. Some may say too much work, too little return, as for me I say its the best way to learn a machine. I will head back there again soon knowing the skunk has its eye on me. Ha ha. Sorry for the long post, I'm Irish.

SILVER, congrats and a good write up as well.
Thank you Mo. I see you have the 9in. coil also. I know air tests only give a VDI for an unimpeded target. But being snowed in and froze out of getting out I gave in to doing them with the 9 in. coil. Truth be told I'm new to the Manticore and wanted to stick with the stock coil and AT-Gen for a while. Yeah, so much for that. Short story long, detector hanging off the dining room table, plenty of sources of EMI in the room I did tests in AT- Gen, LC & HC. With recovery set at 4 and sensitivity at 24, all metal in 5 tone the clear winner was AT-LC. It was smacking nickels at 13 inches and in depth volume past 14 inches. And keep in mind this is with the 9 in. coil. Wheats and Ihps would hit at 12 and silver dimes in between 11 and 12. I could get the same results on high conductors in AT-HC but nickels would start to break up around 10 or so. So for me It'll be AT-LC, time being. Good luck. Mark

Great write up Mark, seeing similar results in multiple venues, The beach (inland fresh water) has been the biggest eye opener. I didn't think the Equinox series could be topped but I was digging coins and rings at really amazing depths they couldn't touch. I am still learning lots about this machine.

Thank you laplander. I look forward to seeing just how much more the Manticore will find in the sites I have been over with the 800. Good luck to you. Mark

Your determination certainly paid off!!
Sounds like that Manticore is getting good depth too for you.
Although you spent several hours there to find what you did, I bet you also learned a lot… that knowledge can lead to more finds !!
Congrats!!👍👍
